This article introduces data related to schools of Sanskrit grammar in pre-modern India which were collected from various primary and secondary sources. It focuses on two main questions: 1) what is required to &ldquo;found a school&rdquo;? and 2) what criteria are used to distinguish one school from another? The study shows how the debate mainly crystallizes around what is (or is not) authoritative and how the affiliation with a school of grammar is decreed, whether the agent of the decree is the author himself, his followers or his opponents.</p> <p><strong>keywords</strong><br> India, Sanskrit, grammar, schools, <em>vyākaraṇa</em></p></dct:description> <dct:accessRights rdf:resource="http://publications.europa.eu/resource/authority/access-right/PUBLIC"/> <dct:accessRights> <dct:RightsStatement rdf:about="info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccess"> <rdfs:label>Open Access</rdfs:label> </dct:RightsStatement> </dct:accessRights> <dct:license rdf:resource="https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/legalcode"/> <dcat:distribution> <dcat:Distribution> <dcat:accessURL rdf:resource="https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.6676011"/> <dcat:byteSize>181829</dcat:byteSize> <dcat:downloadURL rdf:resource="https://zenodo.org/record/6676011/files/HEL-Livres-1-12-Aussant-BAT.pdf"/> <dcat:mediaType>application/pdf</dcat:mediaType> </dcat:Distribution> </dcat:distribution> </rdf:Description> </rdf:RDF>
