Metal Chelate Complexes of 2-Hydroxy -5-MethylBenzophenone (p) Tolil

2-Hydroxy-5-methyl-benzophenone (\(p\)) toil (HMBT) is found to be a chelating agent for Cu2+,+ Ni2+ and Co2+ ions. It gave a reddish brown bis-chelate (\(p\)H 10.0-10.81 with Cu2+, a red bis-chelate (\(p\)H 9.0-9.8) with Ni2+ and a green bis-chelate (\(p\)H 10.8-11.5) with Co2+. The composition of these chelates have been described on the basis of their elemental analysis. The complexes of Cue and Co2+ were paramagnetic and the nickel complex was diamagnetic. Copper can be estimated gravimetrically.
