Salicylaldebyde (N-o-hydroxybenzalidene)tyrosyl hydrazone (SalTH) has been found to form complexes of the types [M(SaITH)Cl3,(H2O)]2H2O and M(SalTH—3H)-(H2O). where M =LaIII, PrIII, NdII. SmIII, EuIII, GdIII and DyIII. The complexes have been characterised by elemental analysis, molar conductance, magnetic susceptibility, infrared, electronic and pair spectroscopy. The nephelauxetic ratio (\(\bar{(β)}\)), cavalency (\(\delta\)) and the bonding parameter (b2/3) have been calculated for the neodymium complexes. Infrared spectral studies show that the SaITH acts as a neutral bidentate ligand in the adduct complexes and as a tribasic pentadentate one in the neutral complexes. A coordination number six has been proposed around the metal ion in all the complexes.
