Reaction of Polymerisation Initiators with Metal Salts and Metal Complexes in Solutions. Interaction of Potassium Monopersulphate with Copper(II) Salts and Copper(II)/Hydroquinone Couple

The catalytic decomposition of KHSO5 in presence of Curl ions and CurII/phenol couples in aqueous medium (25-500) is facile and follows first order kinetics (kdcuII-0.192×10-5S-1,kdhQ-0.46×10-5Q-1 and kdcuIIiHQ-8.29×10-5s-1) CuSO4/hydroquinone couple catalyses KHSO6 decomposition, the rate obeying the following equation,

                                                         \(- {d[KHSO_{5}] \over dt}\)-βkα[CuII] 0.49 [HQ] 0.98 [KHSO6] 1.16

The catalytic efficiency of CuII, HQ and CuII/HQ couple has been established from kinetic and spectrophotometric data. The mechanism of KHSO6 decomposition has been proposed and the activation energy and other thermodynamic parameters have been calculated
