It is no less clear that this task is arduous and full of obstacles. To name just a few: irregular sampling introduce correlation between frequency bins in the periodogram; noise level cannot be estimated properly when the statistical properties deviate from a uncorrelated stochastic process with Gaussian distribution; the false alarm test, which is based on a proper estimation of the noise level, also suffer from biases due to assumptions like an exponentially distributed noise; different fitting methods produce different results, etc. Here I will discuss some of these issues and introduce an ambitious project aimed to formalize a set of consistent criteria for a reliable frequency extraction in pulsating stars observations. This will produce a living recipe with the purpose of serving as a reference for the present and future data analysts of the ultra-precise observations gathered by asteroseismic space missions. That is, the necessary criteria to be a connoisseur of stellar light curves and identify pulsation modes with seismic models.</p>", "license": { "id": "CC-BY-4.0" }, "title": "\"How to be a connoiseur of stellar light curves\" or Criteria for reliable frequency extraction of pulsating stars observations", "relations": { "version": [ { "count": 1, "index": 0, "parent": { "pid_type": "recid", "pid_value": "5562497" }, "is_last": true, "last_child": { "pid_type": "recid", "pid_value": "5562498" } } ] }, "communities": [ { "id": "plato2021" } ], "keywords": [ "data analysis", "stars: oscillations", "methods: statistical" ], "publication_date": "2021-10-11", "creators": [ { "orcid": "0000-0003-0139-6951", "affiliation": "Instituto de Astrof\u00edsica de Andaluc\u00eda - CSIC", "name": "Pascual-Granado, Javier" }, { "affiliation": "University of Granada", "name": "Garc\u00eda Hern\u00e1ndez, Antonio" }, { "affiliation": "Valencia International University", "name": "\u00c1lvarez Mart\u00ednez, Sergio" } ], "access_right": "open", "resource_type": { "type": "presentation", "title": "Presentation" }, "related_identifiers": [ { "scheme": "doi", "identifier": "10.5281/zenodo.5562497", "relation": "isVersionOf" } ] } }
