Plan S, the initiative launched in 2018, is a great opportunity to accelerate the transition to an open scholarly publishing system. It is also an ambitious challenge for all stakeholders related to financing science, organising and conducting research, and publishing processes. This presentation aims to describe the activities undertaken by the Gdańsk University of Technology to ensure the smooth implementation of Plan S. These activities can be divided into three levels depending on the scope of activities.
1. National level. As part of the Bridge of Data project, an Open Access policy database of Polish scientific journals was created. Most Polish journals are not indexed in the Sherpa Romeo database, and many of them do not have a clearly defined self-archiving policy. The database is generally available and was created in consultation with publishers, which also means that they have to refine their approach.
2. Institutional level. The Bridge of Knowledge portal created by the Gdańsk University of Technology provides the appropriate infrastructure for scientists who choose the green Open Access path. The Open Access repository is available for all users, but in the case of researchers of the Gdańsk University of Technology, the Library also verifies the publisher’s policy regarding green Open Access, and in the future, the compliance with Plan S will be also checked. Additionally, institutional Open Access financing programs for publications with the highest impact were launched.
3. Individual level. As part of the Bridge of Data project, an Open Science Competence Centre was established, which conducts training and consultations in the field of Open Science, prepares instructional materials for the website, and guidelines for researchers on how to promote their scientific output using Open Science tools.
