    <subfield code="a">&lt;p&gt;This white paper provides an overview of current Industry 4.0 platforms, particularly from the perspective of the IIP-Ecosphere project, which is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) in the &amp;ldquo;KI-Innovationswettbewerb&amp;rdquo; (AI innovation competition). The focus is on topics such as interconnectivity, digital twins, openness, security and the use of AI in the context of smart manufacturing. The document describes the approach to data collection, the detailed results for individual industrial platforms, and a summarizing overview. A total of 21 industrial platforms are analyzed based on publicly available documents using 16 analysis topics. Both platforms and analysis topics originate from intensive discussions between the IIP-Ecosphere project partners.&lt;br&gt;
In particular, the analyzed platforms cover the required basic functions. For example, a wide range of communication protocols is often provided and a wide variety of cloud services are integrated. Even newer trends such as artificial intelligence can now be found in the platform descriptions. However, the range of functions also varies greatly among the platforms. Newer standards such as OPC-UA, UMATI or the Industry 4.0 Asset Administration Shell are often used only cautiously, if at all, which may be due in part to the development history, but also due to strategic considerations.&lt;br&gt;
Based on the cross-platform analysis of the 16 topic areas, we derive challenges for future platforms and especially for our work in IIP-Ecosphere. These include topics such as open ecosystems, extensible architectures with standardized interface descriptions, flexible and dynamic support for AI procedures, secure and unified data exchange (for data sharing, resource sharing, and data usage control) as well as end-to-end and consistent configurability that builds user trust in the respective platform. Standardization of (some of) these topics would be desirable to improve exchange and interoperability between platforms and platform ecosystems and to avoid vendor lock-ins.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;em&gt;This artifact contains the whitepaper in German/English as well as the underlying website data (if not forbitten for archiving) used to extract the platform information. The following paragraphs are taken from the German abstract:&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Dieses Whitepaper gibt eine &amp;Uuml;bersicht &amp;uuml;ber aktuelle Industrie 4.0 Plattformen, insbesondere aus dem Blickwinkel des IIP-Ecosphere-Projekts, das im KI-Innovationswettbewerb vom Bundesministerium f&amp;uuml;r Wirtschaft und Energie (BMWi) gef&amp;ouml;rdert wird. Dabei stehen Themen wir Interkonnektivit&amp;auml;t, digitale Zwillinge, Offenheit, Sicherheit und die Nutzung von K&amp;uuml;nstlicher Intelligenz im Kontext der intelligenten Produktion im Mittelpunkt. Das Dokument beschreibt sowohl die Vorgehensweise der Datenermittlung, die Detailergebnisse f&amp;uuml;r einzelne industrielle Plattformen als auch eine zusammenfassende &amp;Uuml;bersicht. Es werden insgesamt 21 industrielle Plattformen basierend auf &amp;ouml;ffentlich verf&amp;uuml;gbaren Dokumenten anhand von 16 Themenfeldern analysiert. Sowohl Plattformen als auch Analysethemen entstammen intensiver Diskussionen der Projektpartner in IIP-Ecosphere.&lt;br&gt;
Die untersuchten Plattformen decken insbesondere die ben&amp;ouml;tigten Grundfunktionen ab. Beispielsweise wird oft eine Vielzahl an Kommunikationsprotokollen bereitgestellt und verschiedenste Cloud-Dienste integriert. Selbst neuere Trends wie K&amp;uuml;nstliche Intelligenz sind inzwischen in den Plattformbeschreibungen zu finden. Allerdings ist der Funktionsumfang zwischen den Plattformen auch sehr unterschiedlich. Neuere Standards wie OPC-UA, UMATI oder die Industrie 4.0 Verwaltungsschale werden oft nur zur&amp;uuml;ckhaltend, wenn &amp;uuml;berhaupt eingesetzt, was teilweise der Entwicklungshistorie aber auch strategischen Erw&amp;auml;gungen geschuldet sein mag.&lt;br&gt;
Basierend auf der Plattform-&amp;uuml;bergreifenden Analyse der 16 Themenfelder leiten wir Herausforderungen f&amp;uuml;r zuk&amp;uuml;nftige Plattformen und insbesondere f&amp;uuml;r unsere Arbeit in IIP-Ecosphere ab. Diese umfassen Themen wie offene &amp;Ouml;kosysteme, erweiterbare Architekturen mit standardisierten Schnittstellenbeschreibungen, flexible und dynamische Unterst&amp;uuml;tzung f&amp;uuml;r KI-Verfahren, sicherer und vereinheitlichter Datenaustausch (f&amp;uuml;r Data Sharing, Ressource Sharing und Data Usage Control) wie auch durchg&amp;auml;ngige und konsistente Konfigurierbarkeit, die das Vertrauen des Nutzers in die jeweilige Plattform st&amp;auml;rkt. Eine Standardisierung von (einigen) dieser Themen w&amp;auml;re w&amp;uuml;nschenswert um den Austausch und die Interoperabilit&amp;auml;t zwischen Plattformen und Plattform&amp;ouml;kosystemen zu verbessern und Lock-ins zu vermeiden.&lt;/p&gt;</subfield>
