Description

ABSTRACT

Germ cell tumors of the Central Nervous System are unusual intracranial neoplasms. They generally affect patients under 20 years of age. Germinomas develop along the midline, mainly on the pineal and suprasellar gland region. When located in the thalamus and basal ganglia, they are usually associated with cerebral hemiatrophy. These neoplasms are sensitive to radiation and chemotherapy, which provides a good prognosis, however when they occur in the thalamus or the basal ganglia, higher recurrence rates have been reported, representing a diagnostic challenge with imaging studies, contrasting with cases in the usual location.
