Taxonomy. First record from Lebanon as Argentina sphyraena Linnaeus 1758 by George et al. (1964: 11); recently recorded as Argentina sphyraena by Aguillar et al. (2018: 80). Material in collection: YPM.

Distribution. Mediterranean Sea, Sea of Marmara, eastern Atlantic: Iceland and Norway south to Western Sahara.

Conservation. IUCN: Global (NE); Med. (LC: 16 November 2007). Capture and threats: Unknown. Occurrence: Rare. Low priority for conservation action.
