Description
Spectrarcturus fabulosus (Gurjanova, 1955) comb. nov.
(Fig. 27)
Pleuroprion fabulosus Gurjanova, 1955: 225–228, figs 13–14.
Pleuroprion fabulosum.— Kussakin & Mezhov, 1979: 149.— Kussakin, 1982: 440–444, figs 327–329.— Kussakin & Vasina, 1990: 50–51, figs 3–4.
Material examined: Paratype female, ZIN RAS cat. no. 3/22841, Kobjakova R / V “Toporok“, station 101, 14 September 1949, South Kurile Islands.
Diagnosis: Body densely setose, with many slender, pointed spines, pair on each pereonite near midline of body, two pairs on pereonite 4; dorsolaterally single large spine and laterally additional spine on anterior pereonites; pereonite 4 0.2 times body length; trapezoid, 2 times longer than third pereonite. Pleotelson long, with few long spines anteriorly, lateral margins with spines, posterior part of pleotelson tapering towards apex. Antennula somewhat long, reaching about one third of length of third peduncular segment of antenna. Antenna long, slender, about 0.9 of total body length; pronounced spine mid-dorsally on second segment, spine distolaterally on fourth segment. Spines present on basis of pereopods 5–7. Oostegites present on pereopods 1–5, very small oostegite lobe on pereopod 5.
Remarks: This species can be distinguished from the other species of Spectrarcturus on the dense setae of the body (also known in S. furcatus), the relatively long antennula and the narrowly pointed pleotelson, having only dorsal spines on the anterior most part of the pleotelson. The male is unknown.
Distribution: Sea of Okhotsk, 385–414 m (Kussakin 1982; Kussakin & Vasina 1990).
