icepack: glacier flow modeling with the finite element method in Python

  • 1. University of Washington

Description

This is the 1.0 release of icepack, a new software package for modeling the flow of glaciers and ice sheets. The main goal of icepack is to both lower the barrier to entry to using flow models for glaciologists who are not experienced in computational physics and to create a tool that experts will find more productive and flexible. Icepack includes several flow models: the shallow ice approximation, the shallow shelf approximation, and a 3D model based on the first-order approximation to the Stokes equations. Additionally, icepack includes models for other processes such as heat transport and damage mechanics.
