    <dct:description>&lt;p&gt;Based on earlier work in the control engineering laboratory of the Trier university of applied sciences, a microcontroller based system for capacitive measurement and digital control of water levels, using pumps and valves, has been developed. This functional specifications document is part of a bachelor thesis which integrates the electronics used for the system on custom circuit board designs. Controller and sensors are connected by CAN bus. Controller, pumps and valves are connected by Modbus. Focus of the thesis is the development of optimized sensor circuits and circuit boards for capacitive water level measurement. The&lt;br&gt; design includes support for later extension by additional communication modules for protocols such as Bluetooth, wireless M-bus or wireless LAN, for internet of things applications. A derived design serves as digital core for modified water meters to measure the water flow rate with the help of Hall sensors or, optionally, an integrated angular magnetic encoder. The architecture is completed by a control board with CAN, Modbus and various digital inputs and outputs, to be used in the central control cabinet of the system.&lt;/p&gt;</dct:description>
