A Intro to CoKL DB, or 4,560 Saints in a Database
Creators
Description
This is a brief introduction to the Corpus Kalendarium, or CoKL DB, available online at http://www.cokldb.org or follow us on twitter at @cokldb. It will cover details about the project and a demonstration of some of the key features, including how to browse and filter manuscripts, find related manuscripts by saint and compare them, and how to see detailed information about a particular saint or date of the year.
Beneath the surface lives a relational database storing the manuscript metadata, the calendar entries and the saints, and all the other relevant information about rank, color and location. These tables are linked to enable efficient searching and filtering, and the side-by-side display of calendars, which is a unique feature of the system.
I’ll show how to browse by manuscript or date, as well the different ways one can compare calendars. We’ll conclude with a demonstration of the “find a similar calendar” tool. This was originally presented as a Lightning Talk for the Schoenberg Symposium 2020
