  <dc:description>The pervasive use of persistent identifiers (PIDs) is seen as a foundational element in anchoring and referencing research data in an interoperable way. The purpose of the Research Data Alliance (RDA) Persistent Identifier Interest Group (PID IG) is to synchronize identifier-related efforts, address important and emerging PID-related topics and coordinate activities, including appropriate RDA Working Groups, to practically solve PID-related issues from the engaged communities.

These presentations at RDA Plenary 16 (November 2020) were all about joining up the research world with PIDs and joining up the PID world with collaborative initiatives.

Using persistent identifiers to reference all the key elements of research is an aspiration to improve research efficiency and innovation in a globally joined-up information system. This session reviewed some of the latest developments in persistent identifiers for the scholarly system and identify opportunities for coordination.</dc:description>
