    "description": "<p><strong>RESUMEN</strong></p>\n\n<p><strong>Introducci&oacute;n</strong>: El carcinoma basocelular es la neoplasia m&aacute;s frecuente de la piel; tiene una recurrencia menor del 2% seg&uacute;n las gu&iacute;as mexicanas. El marcador Ki -67 es un indicador de proliferaci&oacute;n celular al igual que la ciclooxigenasa-2 (COX-2), aunque esta &uacute;ltima tambi&eacute;n se considera antiapopt&oacute;sica. El objetivo de este estudio fue determinar la relaci&oacute;n entre estos inmunomarcadores y la recurrencia de esta neoplasia, adem&aacute;s de analizar su expresi&oacute;n en los tumores primarios y recurrentes, as&iacute; como la positividad en los bordes quir&uacute;rgicos.&nbsp;<br>\n&nbsp;<br>\n<strong>Metodolog&iacute;a</strong>: Estudio retrospectivo de casos y controles en pacientes con carcinoma basocelular con (casos) y sin recurrencias (controles) demostradas durante el per&iacute;odo 2010-2012 en el Hospital Central &ldquo;Dr. Ignacio Morones Prieto&rdquo; (San Luis Potos&iacute;, M&eacute;xico). Se evalu&oacute; el porcentaje e intensidad de expresi&oacute;n de Ki-67 y COX-2, as&iacute; como la relaci&oacute;n entre estos con el tumor primario, la neoplasia recurrente y los bordes quir&uacute;rgicos positivos.&nbsp;<br>\n&nbsp;<br>\n<strong>Resultados</strong>: Se estudiaron 25 casos y 25 controles (grupos pareados por sexo y edad). Se encontraron diferencias estad&iacute;sticamente significativas de Ki67 y COX-2 entre casos y controles (Ki-67, p=0.008; COX-2, p=0.01), contrario a la relaci&oacute;n entre tumores primarios, recurrencias y bordes quir&uacute;rgicos positivos para neoplasia, en los que no se encontraron diferencias significativas.&nbsp;<br>\n&nbsp;<br>\n<strong>Conclusiones</strong>: Se demuestra la utilidad del marcador Ki-67 como un posible factor pron&oacute;stico y el COX-2 como un posible factor protector para la recurrencia del carcinoma basocelular. Estos hallazgos abren una amplia gama de oportunidades en cuanto a la conducta terap&eacute;utica y el protocolo de estudio histopatol&oacute;gico del carcinoma basocelular.</p>\n\n<p>&nbsp;</p>\n\n<p>&nbsp;</p>\n\n<p><strong>ABSTRACT</strong></p>\n\n<p><strong>Introduction</strong>: Basal cell carcinoma is the most frequent skin neoplasia; this has a recurrence of less than 2% according to mexican guidelines. The Ki-67 marker is an indicator of cell proliferation like the cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), although the latter is also considered antiapoptotic. The objective of this study was to determine the association between these immunomarkers with the neoplasic recurrence, besides analyzing the expression in primary and recurrent tumors, as well as the positivity of the surgical edges.&nbsp;<br>\n&nbsp;<br>\n<strong>Methodology</strong>: A retrospective case-control study of patients diagnosed with basal cell carcinoma with (cases) and without (controls) demostrated recurrences during the period of 2010-2012 in the Hospital Central &ldquo;Dr. Ignacio Morones Prieto&rdquo; (San Luis Potos&iacute;, Mexico). The expression percentage and intensity of Ki-67 and COX-2 was evaluated, as well as the association between these markers with the primary tumor, recurrent neoplasia and the surgical edges.&nbsp;<br>\n&nbsp;<br>\n<strong>Results</strong>: 25 cases and 25 controls were studied (paired groups by gender and age). Statistically significant differences were found of Ki67 and COX-2 between cases and controls (Ki-67, p=0.008; COX-2, p=0.01), contrary to the association between primary tumors, recurrences and positive surgical edges to neoplasia, in which no significant differences were found.&nbsp;<br>\n&nbsp;<br>\n<strong>Conclusions</strong>: The utility of Ki-67 as a possible prognostic factor and COX-2 as a possible protective factor were demonstrated for recurrence of basal cell carcinoma. These findings open a wide range of opportunities regarding the therapeutic behavior and study protocol of basal cell carcinoma.</p>",
