Preparing an EU Framework Program is a difficult task and the European Commission cooperates with a large number of stakeholders in these processes. These include European Technology Platforms. For the timber sector, this is the European Forest-based Sector Technology Platform (FTP). Since its inception, FTP has been preparing and updating core strategic documents, including the Vision and the Strategy for Research and Innovation. These documents are the basis for the long-term orientation of the sector, and FTP uses them in dialogue with the European Commission, both in drafting the legislative framework and in particular in preparing co-financing programs for research and innovation. In Slovenia, it would be useful to bring a similar mode of action. Doing so in cooperation and coordination with the Strategic Development and Innovation Partnerships (SRIPs) would provide benefits at the national and international levels. However, in order to achieve this, a thorough study of scientific, innovation, and industrial capacities of the forest-based sector should be completed first.
