This work describes an electromechanical system for incorporating frequency and amplitude modulation to the Symbaline's sound. A pendulum having a magnetic bob is suspended inside the liquid in the wine glass. The pendulum is put into oscillation by driving infra-sound signals through the coil. The pendulum's movement causes the liquid in the glass to slosh back and forth. Simultaneously, wine glass sounds are produced by driving audio-range signals through the coil, inducing vibrations in a small magnet attached to the glass surface and exciting glass vibrations. As the glass vibrates, the sloshing liquid periodically changes the glass's resonance frequencies and dampens the glass, thus modulating both wine glass pitch and sound intensity.", "publication_date": "2019-06-01", "publisher": "Zenodo", "resource_type": { "id": "publication-conferencepaper", "title": { "de": "Konferenzbeitrag", "en": "Conference paper" } }, "rights": [ { "description": { "en": "The Creative Commons Attribution license allows re-distribution and re-use of a licensed work on the condition that the creator is appropriately credited." }, "icon": "cc-by-icon", "id": "cc-by-4.0", "props": { "scheme": "spdx", "url": "https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/legalcode" }, "title": { "en": "Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International" } } ], "title": "The Symbaline - An Active Wine Glass Instrument with a Liquid Sloshing Vibrato Mechanism" }, "parent": { "access": { "owned_by": { "user": 42081 } }, "communities": { "default": "5517c069-330e-42b4-9a61-7187dc64620c", "entries": [ { "access": { "member_policy": "open", "members_visibility": "public", "record_policy": "open", "review_policy": "open", "visibility": "public" }, "children": { "allow": false }, "created": "2018-05-23T10:18:56.789761+00:00", "custom_fields": {}, "deletion_status": { "is_deleted": false, "status": "P" }, "id": "5517c069-330e-42b4-9a61-7187dc64620c", "links": {}, "metadata": { "curation_policy": "
Only peer-reviewed papers accepted for and presented at the NIME conferences will be included here.
\r\n", "page": "This collection contains peer-reviewed papers published as part of the official proceedings of the International Conference on New Interfaces for Musical Expression (NIME). The NIME conference gathers researchers and musicians from all over the world to share their knowledge and late-breaking work on new musical interface design. The conference started as a workshop at the Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems (CHI) in 2001. Since then, an annual series of international conferences have been held around the world, hosted by research groups dedicated to interface design, human-computer interaction, and computer music. There is also a separate conference archive for NIME material that is not peer-reviewed, and a community archive for anything else.
