In high voltage networks Phasor Measurement Units (PMU) are already used for purposes such as assessing angle stability, detecting areas of high production versus areas of high consumption or for analysis during grid disturbances. However, there are less studies regarding the benefits of PMUs in low voltage networks. PMUs are promising devices for use in active distribution grid, to help monitoring and control in a scenario with high renewables penetration. The paper is analyzing possible benefits from using low-cost PMUs in low voltage microgrids, supported also by the upcoming high end 5G communication, to facilitate microgrid monitoring in real time while giving also useful information processed from PMU data
