Ürgüp Pazar Duası Bağlamında Birlikte Yaşama Kültürü [Culture of Living Together in The Context of The Ürgüp Bazaar Prayer]

  • 1. Associate Professor

Description

The Āhi Organization (Âhilik Teşkilâtı) organized the tradespeople during the Seljuk period. It adopted the principle of righteousness and high quality trading. During the Seljuk and Ottoman period, different elements of religion, language and culture lived together for 800 years in the same country and in the same city. Ürgüp district, in the Ottoman period, was under the flag of Niğde. In the decree of the Sultan which orders the transfer of the center of administration from Ürgup to Mushkara (Nevşehir), the residence of the Qādī (Judge) of Ürgüp in Nevşehir, the establishment of bazaar on Mondays, Qādī is allowed to go to Ürgüp only on Fridays. Weekly markets are the places where the heart of the economy of the country in general and that of the town in particular beats. The production-consumption and social life are present there as the folks live there. During the prayer in the market, the tradesmen and the citizens standing are saying “Amen” together at the end of the prayer. Trading is being carried out in an environment where the desires of not to be deceived and not to deceive are renewed. This prayer also served as an example for the Nevşehir market. Although the citizens did not understand the prayer in Arabic, a map of faith is being created in their hearts as the names of the great prophets (Abraham, Isaac, Ismail, Jacob), the great angels (Jibrael, Mikael, Israfil, and Azrael), and the great books (Torah, Psalms, Bible, Furqān/ Qur'ān) take place in the prayers. The Bazaar prayer is still held even though it has been over a century since the exchange (mubādalah), indicating that the “culture of living together” still continues
