The article discusses the current views on the causes of various types of slow infections and their main features that are encountered in the practice of forensic experts and features of forensic examination. The urgency of the study of prion diseases is due to the fact that they are pathogens extremely dangerous for human and animal infections. Such diseases are diagnosed in all countries of the world, and the agents of scrapie and rabies cows from the UK have been imported to a number of countries in Europe, the Middle East and Asia. Modern quarantine measures to eliminate epizootic are time consuming, cause huge economic damage to the state, and also have a negative impact on the social situation. Domestic and foreign scientists have researched the following questions: prions as an etiological factor of the disorder of activity of the central nervous system; determination of prions in modern infectology; diagnosis of slow illnesses and the like.

However, the forensic vision of this problem at the present stage has isolated examples, which led to the choice of the topic of this article.

The purpose of this article is to determine the features of the occurrence, course, diagnosis and conduct of forensics in the case of suspected prion disease. The author concludes that the current situation gives reason to claim that underestimation of the danger of spreading prions poses a real social, economic and moral danger to humanity. Pre-natal diagnosis of prion diseases is still very imperfect, and therefore forensic examination is most often performed on medical records. It can be a commission or a comprehensive one.
