This data set contains 8 audio files (all in this part) and 48 video files (32 in this part and 16 in Part 2, DOI 10.5281/zenodo.3387435) of the interviews held with the last two known Kusunda speakers from Nepal, Gyani Maiya Sen Kusunda and Kamala Khatri (Sen Kusunda), on August 3rd, 2019, in Kathmandu, Nepal.
As per our knowledge, these are the first recordings of Kusunda that are available in the public domain. The recordings constitute video recordings of the re-enactment of a Kusunda Qawli ritual and a discussion about Kusunda traditional beliefs (all in this part), word list elicitation (all in this part), a description and discussion on traditional medicine (partially in this part, partially in Part 2, DOI: 10.5281/zenodo.3387435), a recollection of the speaker’s first meeting (in part 2, DOI: 10.5281/zenodo.3387435), and comments on the video shot by Dr. Johan Reinhard in 1968-69 (in part 2, DOI: 10.5281/zenodo.3387435).

We greatly value feedback, suggestions, advice, analysis etc. based on this material which will help in the description of the Kusunda language, especially any comments and suggestions that will enable the revitalisation of the language, including a standardisation of the phonology and a phonologically consistent but also practical orthography in both देवनागरी Devanāgarī and Roman script.
