In this study, the capabilities of LBM to model wind flow around complex topography are investigated using the PALABOS framework and data from a measuring campaign at the Bolund peninsula at the coast of Denmark. The topographic properties of Bolund Hill resemble a typical wind turbine site in complex terrain. Together with the measured data, it represents a good validation case. Large Eddy Simulations (LES) in ANSYS Fluent are used as a numerical comparison. The first results are promising and the comparison between experimental and simulation data are in good agreement. In the presentation, the results will be compared quantitatively to the results of the Bolund Hill blind comparison and then assessed by considering the accuracy as well as the costs (model run time, model set-up time, time to learn model and training costs, cost of software, changes to standard processes).
