  "abstract": "<p>This&nbsp;report&nbsp;describes&nbsp;the&nbsp;execution,&nbsp;results,&nbsp;and&nbsp;insights&nbsp; from&nbsp;Task&nbsp;5.3&nbsp;of&nbsp;the&nbsp;REEEM&nbsp;project,&nbsp;which&nbsp;analyses&nbsp; pathways&nbsp;towards&nbsp;a&nbsp;low\u2010carbon&nbsp;energy&nbsp;system&nbsp;for&nbsp;the&nbsp;European&nbsp;Union.&nbsp;Part&nbsp;I&nbsp;of&nbsp;this&nbsp;document&nbsp;describes&nbsp;the&nbsp; LCA&nbsp; model&nbsp; developed&nbsp; as&nbsp; part&nbsp; of&nbsp; the&nbsp; Task&nbsp; and&nbsp; its&nbsp; application&nbsp; to&nbsp; the&nbsp; pathways&nbsp; to&nbsp; quantify&nbsp; the&nbsp; associated&nbsp; environmental&nbsp;impacts.&nbsp;Part&nbsp;II&nbsp;focuses&nbsp;on&nbsp;the&nbsp;critical&nbsp;materials&nbsp;assessment&nbsp;component&nbsp;of&nbsp;the&nbsp;Task&nbsp;and&nbsp;discusses&nbsp; how&nbsp; European&nbsp; energy&nbsp; technology&nbsp; related&nbsp; demand&nbsp; for&nbsp; these&nbsp;materials&nbsp; might&nbsp; change&nbsp; between&nbsp; the&nbsp; pathways&nbsp; explored&nbsp;in&nbsp;REEEM&nbsp;and&nbsp;assesses&nbsp;the&nbsp;risk&nbsp;of&nbsp;supply&nbsp;bottlenecks&nbsp;that&nbsp;might&nbsp;impede&nbsp;these&nbsp;technological&nbsp;transitions.&nbsp;</p>",
