Vorwort

\n\nEditorial
\n\nThis seventh issue of the Zwitscher-Maschine once again presents an impressive variety of topics explored in the context of international Klee research:
\n\nMarie Kakinuma explores the surprisingly frequent phenomenon of recto/verso works in Klee’s oevre describing several examples in some detail. She explores the extent to which the front and back of the artworks correspond thematically and compositionally. With her pioneering theme »Recto/Verso in Paul Klee's Work,« which is also the theme of her dissertation, she embodies the next generation of researchers working on »The Art of Making« by Paul Klee.
\n\nDialectical connections in Paul Klee's pictorial work with all their ambivalence of separation and connection, solidity and fluidity are the focus of philosophical and theoretical considerations by Bernhard Marx.
\n\nIn her contribution, Gloria Köpnick investigates the reception of Paul Klee's work in Oldenburg from the 1920s to the post-war period and the central event of the Klee solo exhibition of 1926 in the Augusteum, which was organised by the »Vereinigung für junge Kunst« Oldenburg and originally initiated by Otto Ralfs as a travelling exhibition. The systematic evaluation of the association's archive documents makes it possible for the first time to reconstruct the Klee exhibition of 1926 and its reception by the artists of Oldenburg, in particular the Bauhäusler Karl Schwoon.
\n\nPaul Klee's largely unknown presence at the 1930 German Werkbund Exhibition in Paris is the subject of the tweet by Walther Fuchs and Osamu Okuda. The focus is on the German Werkbund exhibition 1930 in Paris, curated by Walter Gropius, in which Paul Klee was involved with an excerpt of a theoretical text published in the exhibition catalog, designed by Herbert Bayer
\n\nThe Zentrum Paul Klee is building a bridge between nature and art with the interdisciplinary project FRUCHTLAND on the site and surroundings of the Zentrum Paul Klee. In the project, native dark bees play an essential role, in a project overseen by Dominik Imhof. He will elucidate Klee's pictorial artistic examination of bees using, among other things, the example of honey writing in collaboration with the bees themselves.
\n\nOn the occasion of the recent discovery of a drawing on the back of the work Träger für ein Schild, 1934, 72 by Paul Klee, Marie Kakinuma revises the previous state of research. The inclusion of the verso drawing in the work's interpretation opens up new perspectives in the exploration of the work of art.
\n\nIn the »Book Preview« section, Osamu Okuda and Reto Sorg present their publication, the facsimile edition of an »album« by Paul Klee and his friend Hans Bloesch. Created between 1902 and 1905, the two friends' project »The Book« remained unfinished and the public did not know of its existence. The facsimile edition with transcription in German and English will be published by Nimbus-Verlag Wädenswil in autumn 2019.
\n\nWith this new issue of ZM we wish you, dear readers, an interesting read and much inspiration.

Our newly hatched Twittering Machine has two guiding principles: first, knowledge and research findings and insights belong to everyone; Twittering Machine must be freely accessible via the Internet. Second, Twittering Machine is interested in all the disciplines’ approaches to the examination of Klee. Scientific and artistic approaches to his work have much in common. A glance at Klee’s original Twittering Machine will tell you that the digital publication of the same name will be anything but dogmatic in its approach. Experimental content is highly desirable, and ambiguity or even contradiction is the order of the day, since the Klee community should not have to be one in its opinions.
