THINKING ACEH AS A MARITIME POWER

This paper considers, as an initial attempt, about the maritime abilities of the Sultanate of Aceh Darussalam overall in terms of having involvement both military and trade-oriented interventions in salient sea routes. Hence there should be remarked here that there has not been strong academic tradition and establishment in consideration to the development of Aceh maritime power. This is lackness known by some quarters and also as highlighted by some researchers such as C. A. Gibson-Hill emphasized (1949: 106), though it is not the exact region, there had not been any systematic works pertaining to vehicles of maritime transport in Malay Peninsula.
