Description

The current program that exists to ray trace deformed optical systems has become obsolete with time and system upgrades. Previously written in Fortran, a similar program has been written in Matlab. This program, however, has some limits. By rewriting certain sections, the processing rate has increased by a factor of five and the program has been adapted to use input from the new FEA software. We can now run new optical designs through the ray trace program and find the optical performance of both the perfect surface and an approximation of the deformed surface. We have made progress towards reducing the approximation using a method different from Newtonian iteration. Future development will work towards improving on the approximation, focusing on moving from a successful system with one mirror, to a successful system with multiple mirrors.
