  "abstract": "<p>Software-Defined Networking (SDN) is a networking paradigm that decouples the control plane of a network from its forwarding plane and offers programmability of the data plane devices \u00a0to \u00a0manage \u00a0and \u00a0control \u00a0the \u00a0ongoing \u00a0traffic \u00a0flows. \u00a0This paper \u00a0presents \u00a0the \u00a0control \u00a0plane \u00a0architecture \u00a0of \u00a0a \u00a0Datacentre network \u00a0(DCN) \u00a0and \u00a0its \u00a0operational \u00a0services \u00a0being \u00a0developed for \u00a0NEPHELEs \u00a0optical \u00a0network \u00a0infrastructure. \u00a0The \u00a0heart \u00a0of the proposed \u00a0control \u00a0plane \u00a0overlay \u00a0is \u00a0an \u00a0OpenDaylight \u00a0SDN controller, which along-with its north and south-bound interfaces bridges \u00a0the \u00a0gap \u00a0between \u00a0the \u00a0cloud \u00a0applications \u00a0and \u00a0the \u00a0DC network configuration at the data plane, in order to automatically adjust \u00a0the \u00a0underlying \u00a0network \u00a0to \u00a0the \u00a0Quality \u00a0of \u00a0Service \u00a0(QoS) requirements at the application level.
