<p><strong>Seasonality, host range, and biology of <em>Altica himalayensis</em> Chen are detailed. The species is one of the most dominant leaf beetle (Chrysomelidae: Coleoptera) found in the Kashmir valley. A major pest of <em>Rumex nepalensis</em> (locally known as <em>Abuji</em>), plant is used as a source of food, astringent qualities, and for dyeing purposes. During the present study the pest was also found to feed on <em>Polygonium aviculare</em> (new host plant) and adults were also found to exert considerable damage to a number of other major crops including, apricot, almond, apple, strawberry, and walnut. Updated checklist and taxonomic status of the genus <em>Altica</em> from India is also provided herewith.</strong></p>
