Diomidis Spinellis. A tale of four kernels. In Wilhem Schäfer, Matthew B. Dwyer, and Volker Gruhn, editors, ICSE '08: Proceedings of the 30th International Conference on Software Engineering, pages 381–390, New York, May 2008. Association for Computing Machinery. DOI: 10.1145/1368088.1368140

In this paper the source code of four systems operating system kernels, FreeBSD, Linux, Solaris, and Windows, is analyzed by collecting metrics in the areas of file organization, code structure, code style, the use of the C preprocessor, and data organization. This replication package contains the corresponding data sets and source code.
