  • Monniot C. (1978) questioned the species name to give to Kerguelen material and used Molgula pedunculata. For molgulids from the western Antarctic Monniot & Monniot (1983) grouped the pedunculate specimens under the name M. pedunculata and isolate M. hodgsoni having a globular body covered with long hair-like processes but a very similar internal anatomy.
