README —————- Introduction: These materials are designed as a template for an introductory Research Data Management workshop for STEM students and Early Career Researchers. The workshop is interactive and is designed to be run for 2-3 hours depending on which sections of the workshop are delivered. As it is a template workshop there is a lot of material to cover all disciplines, it is unlikely that all sections would be of interest to any one group of researchers. The sections are: Introduction Backup and file sharing How to organise your data well Data Tools Personal and sensitive data Data sharing Data Management Plans The workshop works best when adapted for a particular discipline and with a maximum of 30 participants. ——————— Contents: GDL_DMP_V8_20161115 (PDF and docx) MEM_RDMWorkshopLinks_V1_20161206 (PDF and docx) PRE_DataLossScenarios_V4_20160219 (PDF and docx) PRE_RDMWorkshopSTEM_V3_20161206 (PDF and pptx) ——————— PRE_RDMWorkshopSTEM_V3_20161206 Powerpoint slides which form the majority of the workshop. There are notes with suggested examples and places where the presentation could be adapted for different disciplines in the notes section of the pptx file. ———————- PRE_DataLossScenarios_V4_20160219 This forms the basis of one of the first activities in the ‘Backup and file sharing’ section of the workshop. The scenarios can be printed out and distributed to small groups around the room to discuss for a couple of minutes, before feeding back to the entire group. ——————— GDL_DMP_V8_20161115 This blank Data Management Plan (DMP) is the last activity of the workshop. A copy is given to each participant and they are asked to fill in all the boxes apart from the ‘comments’ boxes (3-5 minutes depending on the time available). Participants are then asked to swap their DMP with their neighbour, comment on the DMP they have been given (2-3 minutes) and then discuss their DMP with their neighbour (2-3 minutes). ———————— MEM_RDMWorkshopLinks_V1_20161206 Participants are given a link to this document (as a Google Document) at the start of the session. This allows them to see all the resources available and, as it is an editable document, contribute with any resources that they are aware of. This also means that they do not need to take notes during the workshop of any resources that are mentioned.
