This data set was produced by Jeremy Kidwell as a part of a research project “Finding Common Ground” that was jointly funded by the AHRC/ESRC (Grant Ref: AH/P005063/1) and based jointly at the University of Edinburgh and the University of Birmingham. Because it is derived from the Permaculture UK website, this data has been made available for academic use under the same (i.e. “sharealike”) Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported (CC BY-SA 3.0) license. For full details, see: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/legalcode. The set was produced using publicly available data from the Permaculture UK website (https://www.permaculture.org.uk/people-projects-places) in Mar 2016. Site locations were resolved to coordinates in a variety of ways, using the OpenCage API (https://geocoder.opencagedata.com/api) and the DataScienceToolkit, assembled by Pete Warden (http://www.datasciencetoolkit.org/). Data was checked against the ONS Postcode Directory (2014 v2) and was generated using QGIS 2.8.2. Please note: sites listed which are outside the UK have been omitted. Data in this set includes three fields: - 1-2 provide X and Y coordinates. These are set to WGS84. - 3 specifies the name of the Permaculture Project - 4 specifies a category which matches the Permaculture UK designations: “land learners,” “land centres,” and “organisations” One final note: This data set has been simplified for ease of use. If other researchers are interested in a wider range of data, please get in touch via email. This data set represents one release in a range of geospatial data sets of British community groups also available in the Mapping Community repository. Revision History: 1.1 This is the first publicly available instance of this data set.
