  "abstract": "<p><em>The article deals with the issues of control in the process of systematic formation of grammatical competence as a necessary component of the communicative-speaking competence of foreign students </em><em>at</em><em> the preparatory faculty. The purpose of the article is to determine the content</em><em>s</em><em> of the lexical-grammatical component of language competence and to develop means for its effective control </em><em>for</em><em> foreign students </em><em>(</em><em>non-philolog</em><em>ical speciality) who</em><em> study Russian as </em><em>Second</em><em> </em><em>L</em><em>anguage (1 certification level).</em></p>\n\n<p><em>&nbsp;The work specifies the meaning of the concept. &laquo;Linguistic competence&raquo;</em><em>. Besides,</em><em> the significance of its lexico-grammatical component </em><em>is</em><em> revealed. There is a list of functions of language control, which include verifying, evaluative, motivational-stimulating, educational, corrective, diagnostic, generalizing and developing. This classification of types of control depends on the stages of its implementation and the form of </em><em>application</em><em>.</em></p>\n\n<p><em>The author analyzes the traditional means of control and presents a new type of controlling</em><em>,</em><em> a multilevel language test, developed and implemented in the educational process. The main features of the </em><em>offered</em><em> test are: increasing the complexity level within a single test, the convenience of </em><em>completing</em><em>, graphic design and verification, the </em><em>productivity</em><em>, objectivity</em><em>,</em><em> multi-functionality and the possibility of using test variants as adaptive-training.</em></p>\n\n<p><em>The novelty of the work is to create and use a new type of controlling test</em><em>ing</em><em> materials, which ensure the phased systematic monitoring of the level of language competence of foreign students throughout their period of study at the preparatory</em><em> y f</em><em>aculty. The author concludes that the introduction into the educational process of a combined system of educational materials containing both traditional means of control and a modern test of a multilevel structure, optimizes the control process and improves the quality of measurement and assessment of the level of language competence of foreign students. .</em></p>",
