Release of the CES pilot use cases

Description

This deliverable describes the release of the Computational Earth Sciences (CES) pilot use cases.
CES is a specialization of the so called EPOS Integrated Core Services - Distributed (ICS-D). CES are domain specific computational or visualisation services, integrated and interoperable with ICS-C (EPOS Integrated Core Services – Central Hub), providing community based, domain specific visualisation or computational tools and services. CES are usually based on domain specific requirements.
The work reported in this document constitutes the bulk of Task 6.3 (Interactions with Computational Earth Science (CES) groups within TCS WPs) and of Task 7.4 (“Computational Earth Sciences (CES) development”). The described CES pilots were indeed created on the basis of requirements collected by WP TCS communities, and the software was developed to implement Computational Earth Science services within the ICS framework.
Such pilots can be considered just the first step towards a wider integration of additional CES tools that will be provided by communities in synergy and collaboration with ICS-C team. The process of developing CES pilot use cases and related current activities of integration into and interoperation with ICS-C will contribute to build knowledge and expertise to face a challenge that is unprecedented in the solid Earth Domain.
