"A Million Pictures: Magic Lantern Slide Heritage as Artefacts in the Common European History of Learning". Notes from Workshop 4: Evaluation of the project and setting the agenda for future research and documentation.

  • 1. University of Exeter

Description

This report documents the fourth and last workshop of the research project "A Million Pictures: Magic Lantern Slide Heritage as Artefacts in the Common European History of Learning" (1 June 2015 - 31 May 2018). Workshop 4 was held from 11-12 January in Exeter, UK.

As the "Million Pictures" Project was the first international research project on lantern slides, the workshop reports provide reference about the state of research at a given moment. This workshop had many presentations from researchers and performers who were not part of the core project consortium. A recurring theme is the great potential that lies in the cooperation between museums and universities for research into cultural heritage. It documents various approaches for incorporating insights from archival research into academic research on the lantern and on lantern slides as well as for contemporary artistic practice.
