  "description": "<p>This is a major release from 0.4. Highlights include new functions for plotting heatmaps, possibly while applying clustering algorithms to discover structured relationships. These functions are complemented by new custom colormap functions and a full set of IPython widgets that allow interactive selection of colormap parameters. The palette tutorial has been rewritten to cover these new tools and more generally provide guidance on how to use color in visualizations. There are also a number of smaller changes and bugfixes.</p>\n\n\n<a class=\"anchor\" href=\"#plotting-functions\"><span class=\"octicon octicon-link\"></span></a>Plotting functions\n\n<ul>\n<li>  Added the heatmap function for visualizing a matrix of data by\ncolor-encoding the values. See the docs for more\ninformation.</li>\n<li>  Added the clustermap function for clustering and visualizing a\nmatrix of data, with options to label individual rows and columns by\ncolors. See the docs for more information. This work\nwas lead by Olga Botvinnik.</li>\n<li>  lmplot and pairplot get a new keyword argument, markers. This can\nbe a single kind of marker or a list of different markers for each\nlevel of the hue variable. Using different markers for different\nhues should let plots be more comprehensible when reproduced to\nblack-and-white (i.e. when printed). See the <a href=\"https://github.com/mwaskom/seaborn/pull/323\">github pull\nrequest</a> for examples.</li>\n<li>  More generally, there is a new keyword argument in FacetGrid and\nPairGrid, hue_kws. This similarly lets plot aesthetics vary across\nthe levels of the hue variable, but more flexibily. hue_kws should\nbe a dictionary that maps the name of keyword arguments to lists of\nvalues that are as long as the number of levels of the hue variable.</li>\n<li>  The argument subplot_kws has been added to FacetGrid. This\nallows for faceted plots with custom projections, including <a href=\"http://nbviewer.ipython.org/gist/shoyer/16db9cd187886a3effd8\">maps\nwith\nCartopy</a>.</li>\n</ul>\n\n\n<a class=\"anchor\" href=\"#color-palettes\"><span class=\"octicon octicon-link\"></span></a>Color palettes\n\n<ul>\n<li>  Added two new functions to create custom color palettes. For\nsequential palettes, you can use the light_palette function, which\ntakes a seed color and creates a ramp from a very light, desaturated\nvariant of it. For diverging palettes, you can use the\ndiverging_palette function to create a balanced ramp between two\nendpoints to a light or dark midpoint. See the\npalette tutorial &lt;palette_tutorial&gt; for more information.</li>\n<li>  Added the ability to specify the seed color for light_palette and\ndark_palette as a tuple of husl or hls space values or as a\nnamed xkcd color. The interpretation of the seed color is now\nprovided by the new input parameter to these functions.</li>\n<li>  Added several new interactive palette widgets:\nchoose_colorbrewer_palette, choose_light_palette,\nchoose_dark_palette, and choose_diverging_palette. For\nconsistency, renamed the cubehelix widget to\nchoose_cubehelix_palette (and fixed a bug where the cubehelix\npalette was reversed). These functions also now return either a\ncolor palette list or a matplotlib colormap when called, and that\nobject will be live-updated as you play with the widget. This should\nmake it easy to iterate over a plot until you find a good\nrepresentation for the data. See the <a href=\"https://github.com/mwaskom/seaborn/pull/286\">Github pull\nrequest</a> or <a href=\"http://nbviewer.ipython.org/381a5f5f7e38f8e45bd6\">this\nnotebook (download it to use the\nwidgets)</a> for more\ninformation.</li>\n<li>  Overhauled the color palette tutorial to\norganize the discussion by class of color palette and provide more\nmotivation behind the various choices one might make when choosing\ncolors for their data.</li>\n</ul>\n\n\n<a class=\"anchor\" href=\"#bug-fixes\"><span class=\"octicon octicon-link\"></span></a>Bug fixes\n\n<ul>\n<li>  Fixed a bug in PairGrid that gave incorrect results (or a crash)\nwhen the input DataFrame has a non-default index.</li>\n<li>  Fixed a bug in PairGrid where passing columns with a date-like\ndatatype raised an exception.</li>\n<li>  Fixed a bug where lmplot would show a legend when the hue variable\nwas also used on either the rows or columns (making the legend\nredundant).</li>\n<li>  Worked around a matplotlib bug that was forcing outliers in boxplot\nto appear as blue.</li>\n<li>  kdeplot now accepts pandas Series for the data and data2\narguments.</li>\n<li>  Using a non-default correlation method in corrplot now implies\nsig_stars=False as the permutation test used to significance\nvalues for the correlations uses a pearson metric.</li>\n<li>  Removed pdf.fonttype from the style definitions, as the value used\nin version 0.4 resulted in very large PDF files.</li>\n</ul>",
