    "description": "<p>Real-time applications, such as disaster early warning</p>\n\n<p>systems, live event broadcasting, video conferencing and</p>\n\n<p>online gaming, present particular challenges for successful development</p>\n\n<p>and deployment: they only achieve their expected</p>\n\n<p>business value when they meet critical requirements, such as high</p>\n\n<p>performance and availability for outstanding Quality of Service</p>\n\n<p>and Quality of Experience. The development of time-critical</p>\n\n<p>applications needs to be supported by a customized software</p>\n\n<p>engineering environment that offers support for the entire application</p>\n\n<p>life-cycle. However, there is a lack of (component-based)</p>\n\n<p>software workbenches/tools suitable for time-critical applications,</p>\n\n<p>supporting customized software engineering through the entire</p>\n\n<p>life-cycle. In this paper we present the SIDE Workbench developed</p>\n\n<p>during the course of the SWITCH project. It uses TOSCA</p>\n\n<p>extensively for exchange of information within the SWITCH</p>\n\n<p>platform, and offers component-based application composition,</p>\n\n<p>software component modelling, infrastructure planning and provisioning</p>\n\n<p>through the entire life-cycle of time-critical applications.</p>\n\n<p>To show the application composition process we describe the</p>\n\n<p>development of a containerized interactive multi-tier application</p>\n\n<p>on the SIDE Workbench that is mapped into TOSCA, from which</p>\n\n<p>the corresponding Docker Compose file is then created.</p>",
