Computing Environment For The DELPHI Experiment At LEP

  • 1. University of Victoria (CA)
  • 2. CERN

Description

The software and the computing environment of the DELPHI experiment have been preserved as a Virtual Appliance (OVA). The Virtual Appliance is based on the CERN Virtual Machine and Scientific Linux 6 on an x86_64 architecture. The Virtual Appliance may easily be imported into VirtualBox for user consumption. Before importing the OVA please set up a "host-only" network interface, the virtual appliance uses it to provide an IP address (displayed in the console once the VM is ready for login) you may use to connect to the virtual machine. If you don't have a host-only network setup you will see an error message prompting you to set up a host-only network when the VM boots.

Once the Virtual Machine is running the user account "delphi" will be available with the password "delphi2000". This account has full administrative privileges for the Virtual Machine.

Once logged into the Virtual Machine you may access the DELPHI software at /cvmfs/delphi.cern.ch/. Some examples to get you started are available at /cvmfs/delphi.cern.ch/scientific-6/examples. The data is available at /eos/experiment/delphi/ once you have authenticated yourself with `kinit <account>` using your CERN account. The CERN account must be in the DELPHI e-group to gain access to the data. Contact information for the DELPHI collaboration is available on the CERN greybook.

To set up a virtual machine on a cloud interface you may use the attached delphi-user-data as "user data". The content is designed to work with the CERN Virtual machine which you may obtain from http://cernvm.cern.ch
