Andreeva A.D.

The article presents the analysis of an empirical research aimed to study the subjective image of childhood characteristic of the parents whose children go to schools that realize educational programmes of different levels of complexity. The data reflecting the structure and the content of social representations of future first-graders’ parents and their idea of the essential concepts belonging to the semantic field of childhood problem allowed us to create descriptive models of childhood image characteristic of the parents who choose a general education secondary school for their children or a school that makes higher demands on children’s abilities. The method of prototypical analysis used in the research proved to be very sensitive to the differences in the structure of social representations of the respondents who live in the same cultural environment but have different value orientations and target settings.
