NEANIAS develops thematic services for EOSC communities in the field of Underwater, Atmospheric and Space research. The project will integrate the thematic services into the EOSC ecosystem after they reach the maturity required by EOSC. At the same time, the project is investigating the possibility of onboarding a number of core services to EOSC as well, thus exceeding the targets initially set for the availability of NEANIAS services on EOSC marketplace.
This deliverable presents the results of EOSC integration activities realised by the time of its preparation. The progress of EOSC integration activities is compared against the plan presented in Deliverable D8.3 “EOSC integration plan (final)” [1], elaborated in August 2021. It also introduces the appropriate changes to the EOSC integration plan in order to ensure its consistency with the updated plans of NEANIAS service providers (both thematic and core ones) as regards the onboarding of their services to EOSC.

This document reports on the 3rd release of the Underwater Services and the software underlying each service. This NEANIAS report, deliverable D2.8, comes out after the second thematic Underwater Services release, deliverable D2.7. The U1 service provides an advanced user-friendly, cloud-based version of the popular MB-System software, allowing processing bathymetric data through Jupyter Notebooks. The U2 [UW_MOS] service “Seafloor Mosaicking from Optical Data” delivers 2D/3D mosaics produced by a set of images and navigational data. The expected output is achieved by a processing pipeline based on in-house solutions and open-source libraries. Finally, the U3 [UW_MAP] service “Seabed Classification from Multispectral, Multibeam Data” provides an easy-to-use, cloud-based solution incorporating machine learning frameworks in order to identify different seabed classes. For each released service a point-of-access is provided, as well as the relevant documentation, which is organized under the NEANIAS documentation service at https://docs.neanias.eu/en/latest. This third services milestone also reports integration in U1-U3 of several NEANIAS core services, as an essential contribution to the TRL 8 level reached now. The core services integrated are the Logging and Accounting services, the AAI service and the Data Sharing service. The U2 and U3 services are also utilizing the Common UI (User Interface).1 In this deliverable, the progress and changes/enhancements made since the second release for each service are described, next to current scaling for growing user demands, dissemination and publication of products.

This document reports on the current state of core-services release, in particular the software underlying each service. This report, NEANIAS deliverable 6.3, comes out right after the first core-services release, deliverable 6.2.
Services are the way NEANIAS delivers functionalities within its systems architecture, services are decoupled functionalities composed by software and documentation. Services interact with each other in order to exchange data and provide the user some combined, higher-level functionality. Core-services are fundamental functionalities laying the ground for the thematic services. Core-services address functionalities such as user authentication, processing infrastructure, data archives; Services that will be consumed by the thematics which are then able to focus specifically on their role on science products.
A released service provides a point-of-access, an interface through which nteracts with other services and documentation explaining how to use it. Documentation, for instance, of all NEANIAS services is organized under NEANIAS Docs service at https://docs.neanias.eu/.
Services reported here have gone through the first release round, most services have integrated to NEANIAS authentication system service, the documentation workflow, and integrated with GARR infrastructure services. As expected, this first core-services milestone uncovered some gaps in the services deployment stack which are being addressed for the next milestone, where operational cloud prototypes are being deployed.

NEANIAS develops thematic services for EOSC communities on the field of Underwater, Atmospheric and Space research. The project will integrate the thematic services into the EOSC ecosystem after they reach the maturity required by EOSC. This deliverable presents up-to-date information on EOSC integration approaches and procedures, as well as on relevant services discovered as part of the EOSC landscape monitoring activity.
This document updates the EOSC integration strategy and roadmap, initially described in Deliverable D8.1 [28], taking into account the current status and developments both at EOSC and NEANIAS levels. The document initially reviews the current status and developments in EOSC landscape, highlighting issues related to EOSC integration at all levels; service onboarding process, architecture, interfaces, federated services, service management, etc. Similarly, it briefly presents the NEANIAS services (both thematic and core ones) to be integrated to EOSC.
Having analysed the external and internal environment of the project (i.e. EOSC landscape and NEANIAS services’ status, respectively), the deliverable focuses on the EOSC services which are targeted for integration with NEANIAS relevant services, and presents the updated plan for EOSC integration, which will serve as the guide for EOSC integration activities until the end of the project.

The objective of deliverable D2.2 is to report on the final set of service requirements, software specifications and upcoming development plan of the foreseen Underwater Research Services. These three services aiming at providing operational cloud solution for: i) Bathymetry mapping from acoustic data service implementation (U1), ii) Seafloor Mosaicking from Optical Data (U2), and iii) Seabed Classification from Multispectral, Multibeam Data (U3). This document reports on Underwater end-user communities, involved datasets and products as well as the current status of employed software and services. Then it presents results from the service requirement validation based on current software releases. While the U1 service has not yet completed the 2nd release (due on 31st October 2021), a series of validation trials and dissemination actions involving end-users of all the underwater sector on the 2nd release of U2 and U3 services have resulted in working towards the final set of the end-users requirements and software specifications, marking a considerable progress towards the employment of novel, user-friendly, automatised and efficient novel EOSC underwater services to be further developed at the 3rd release. This was the result of a very intense collaboration between the developers, the technical team, the end-users communities of NEANIAS as well as external advisors of NEANIAS. As the U1 service was not ready at the due date of the 2nd release no U1 service end-user validation trials and dissemination actions have been performed. Hence at the time the U2 and U3 services performed the end-user trials no specification and requirements could be retrieved from the end-users to improve the U1 service based on the end-user feedback.

The objective of this first deliverable of the Underwater Sector was to analyze the data and computational requirements collected from the Underwater user communities and related application domains, as a first step to the co-design of innovative services for an interdisciplinary international community of end-users.
After the analysis of the actual needs, the state of the art and various cases-studies from academia (underwater archaeology and marine geology), as well as the energy sector (renewable energy, oil and gas sector), a number of 14 requirements (R1-14) were defined by the service consumers. These were handed over and discussed with the core services providers. After evaluation and classification of the required functionalities, the core service providers set the service specifications in order to identify the EOSC hub service modules to support the development of the Underwater specific services U1, U2 and U3 and proceed to the first release of NEANIAS EOSC underwater services, that will be further evaluated and assessed internally and externally.

This document reports on the 1st release of the space services and the software underlying each service. This report, NEANIAS deliverable 4.4, comes out right after the first thematic space services release, deliverable D4.3.
The S1 Service “SPACE-VIS” provides an advanced operational solution for data management and visualization of astrophysics and planetary data adopting FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Re-usable) principles. The S2 Service “SPACE-MOS” makes high quality images from the raw data captured by instruments (map making) and for assembling those images into custom mosaics (mosaicking). Finally, the S3 Service “SPACE-ML” performs pattern and structure detection in astronomical surveys as well as in planetary surface composition, topography and morphometry.
For each released service a point-of-access is provided, as well as an interface which interacts with other services and documentation explaining how to use it. Documentation of all NEANIAS space services is organized under NEANIAS docs service at https://docs.neanias.eu/en/latest/#space-services.
Services reported here have gone through the first release round, most services have been integrated to NEANIAS authentication system service, the documentation workflow, and integrated with GARR infrastructure services and MEEO cloud services. As expected, this first services milestone uncovered some gaps in the services deployment stack and integration with other core and delivery services will be addressed for the next milestones and releases.

The present document describes the general methodological framework to be utilized for the assessment of NEANIAS’ business perspectives and innovation cases. To achieve this task, several methodologies are being employed that enable the identification and detailed description of the external and internal factors that can potentially influence the NEANIAS ecosystem. More specifically, the market analysis deconstructs the economic environment that NEANIAS is expected to be a part of, drawing useful conclusions about the existent economic forces. Then, the business modelling looks to further understand the NEANIAS services and its surroundings, understanding how they can interconnect with each other, a foundational part of the analysis that can enable sustainability through the provision of invaluable information. All gathered intelligence regarding the services and the market is leveraged by the technoeconomic model that translates detailed information into numerical values, particularly monetary ones. These can be directly used for the evaluation of the project’s sustainability, regarding business perspectives through market analysis, business modelling, technoeconomic analysis, and cost-benefit analysis for each service for providing internal feedback to service providers. The aforementioned methodological steps are described in detail in the following sections followed by a general overview of how they will be brought together to provide fruitful results. Furthermore, the described methodology can enhance the value derived from the EOSC ecosystem, while easing the difficulties in the integration for Neanias and similar future initiatives.

This document reports on the 3rd and latest release of the Atmospheric Thematic services and the software underlying each service. This report, NEANIAS deliverable 3.8, comes out right after the third thematic space services release, deliverable D3.7.
The A1 Service, named “ATMO-FLUD”, (for flux densities) provides a set of algorithms for the calculation of flux densities of Sensible Heat, Latent Heat, Turbulent Kinetic Energy and other scalars like GHGs. The input data to the service is user provided although validation data are available for trial runs. Real data should be experimentally obtained by the user bearing in mind that the fundamental method employed in this service is the “Eddy Covariance”.
The A2 Service comprises two services: one named “ATMO-STRESS” calculates the trajectories of tectonic stress based on a series of local data of stress and presents them as a map (stress field). The second service, named “ATMO-SEISM”, compares a series of parameters regarding the seismicity of a region and the variation of gas emission in the atmosphere, in order to find possible correlations.
The A3 Service, named “ATMO-4CAST”, is responsible for Air quality estimation, monitoring and forecasting, providing users with the ability to obtain and visualize meteorological and air quality forecasts based on their own datasets through a central server. This is done by processing the incoming data, passing it through popular models such as WRF-ARW, QTraffic and AUSTAL2000, and processing and creating visualizations based on their outputs.
For each released service a point-of-access is provided, as well as an interface through which it may interact with other services and a documentation explaining how to use it. Documentation of all NEANIAS space services is organized under NEANIAS docs service.
Services reported here have gone through the third release round. Almost all services have been integrated to NEANIAS authentication system service, NEANIAS logging, accounting and monitoring systems, documentation workflow, and are provided through the GARR infrastructure and MEEO cloud services. As expected, this third services milestone has the services integrated to NEANIAS core services, have achieved stability in cloud environments and are currently scaling for growing user demands, datasets increment, and output products publication.

NEANIAS is an EU project that co-designs, develops and deliver innovative thematic services for European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) communities in three major sectors: Underwater research, Atmospheric research and Space research. NEANIAS aims to maximize the industry/research engagement by identifying and addressing all the challenges ensuring thus the sustainability of the services in question. These challenges are stemming not only from the funding needs but also from requirements of EOSC, the availability of data, the need for a common governance as well as from security and privacy related issues.
This white paper is based on the lessons learnt and the experiences gathered during the project. It describes the best practices for sustainable services on EOSC which could be a useful tool for all the stakeholders of the EOSC ecosystem.

NEANIAS Project partners have been driving the co-design and delivery of 10+ innovative thematic services, derived from the state-of-the art research assets and practices in hopes of overcoming emerging challenges; like bringing together actors from several disciplines (astrophysics, planetary, ocean, climate, archaeology, geology, computer science and more) to expand the vision of the project on business cases as a result of Open Innovation Calls. There are two Open Calls organised in the framework of the NEANIAS project, to invite potential external end-users in testing, and integrating NEANIAS services of all thematic sectors, and provide valuable feedback for NEANIAS partners on creating new business perspectives. The Open innovation method utilised in NEANIAS considers the target thematic areas of the services, including Start-ups, Established private companies from diverse industries (SMEs / Multinationals), and Groups of individual researchers / innovators of up to 3 members. As a result of the intense activities, the First Open Call is closed successfully, with 21 applications, who applied to utilize and integrate NEANIAS services to create new business cases. Organizing and implementing the First NEANIAS Open Call was a complex process, and this deliverable summarizes all preparation and implementation activities, including communication.

This document is D1.3 “Quality Assurance & Risk Management Plan” of NEANIAS project and its purpose is to present the overall strategy, the tools and the procedures regarding Quality Assurance and Risk Management for NEANIAS. In particular, the aim of this deliverable is to describe the mechanisms that will be employed throughout the project in order to ensure the quality level of project deliverables and outcomes.
Regarding quality assurance it defines specific policies and moreover it defines separate policies for a number of activities referring to project deliverables, milestones, research publications, meetings’ organization, events’ participation, press releases, dissemination and other outreach material, training, KPIs training etc. To be effective, on one hand it assigns nominated reviewers for contractual outcomes, such as deliverables, while on the other, it adopts minimum overhead approaches, such as open flow of information and “silent approval” policy, in areas where less critical issues may reside.
Regarding risk management, it defines the methodology to be followed, which allows risk management to be supported by non-experts, minimizing the learning curve and the risk for neglecting issues. It also defines the instruments and timeline for executing the methodology, in order to provide sufficient risk assurance for the project assets.
In the updated version of the document the list of risk is adapted to the risks that threaten the project and the sustainability of its services for the last period of the project and beyond.

This document reports on the 2nd release of the Atmospheric Thematic services and the software underlying each service. This report, NEANIAS deliverable 3.6, comes out right after the second thematic atmospheric services release, deliverable D3.5.
The A1 Service, named “ATMO-FLUD”, (for flux densities) provides a set of algorithms for the calculation of flux densities of Sensible Heat, Latent Heat, Turbulent Kinetic Energy and other scalars like GHGs. The input data to the service is user provided although test data are available for trial runs.
This is done by processing the incoming data, passing it through popular models such as WRF-ARW and CMAQ, and processing and creating visualizations based on their outputs.
For each released service a point-of-access is provided, as well as an interface through which it may interact with other services, and documentation explaining how to use it. Documentation of all NEANIAS atmospheric services is organized under NEANIAS docs service.
Services reported here have gone through the second release round, most services have been integrated to NEANIAS authentication system service, the documentation workflow, and integrated with GARR infrastructure services. As expected, this second milestone of services, has the services integrated to NEANIAS core services, have achieved stability in cloud environments and are currently scaling for growing user demands, datasets increment, and output products publication.

This document reports on the 2nd release of the Underwater Services and the software underlying each service. This NEANIAS report, deliverable D2.6, comes out after the second thematic Underwater Services release, deliverable D2.5. Due to a delay in the delivery of U1 [UW_BAT] “Bathymetry mapping from acoustic data service implementation” this report has not been published end of October 2021 but in April 2022. This second services milestone sees the Underwater services integrated to NEANIAS several core services, which are an essential contribute to the TRL 7 level reached. The core services integrated are the Logging and Accounting services, the AAI service and the Data Sharing service. The U2 and U3 services are also using the Common UI (User Interface) service.1 In this deliverable, we describe, in detail, the progress and changes/enhancements made since the first release for each of the Underwater services.

This deliverable aims to introduce the NEANIAS service management system, i.e. the set of policies, objectives, processes, procedures and tools, etc., which will support the design, development and delivery of NEANIAS services. The establishment of the NEANIAS service management system will ensure that the entire lifecycle of NEANIAS services is governed by specific rules, which in turn will ensure that the services are developed and operated in a consistent manner. Apart from the service management system, this deliverable also presents the NEANIAS service model, which adopts and extends when needed the latest EOSC service model, called EOSC Profiles (v3.0)1. The use of the EOSC model and its basic concepts as the basis for modelling the NEANIAS service providers and service descriptions covers the modelling needs of NEANIAS service providers and aims to facilitate the on-boarding of the NEANIAS services to EOSC.

A dedicated portal for NEANIAS is one of the most important channels to promote the dissemination and communication of the performed work, results and impact of the ongoing activities of the project. The website is designed at the beginning of the activities and will be updated throughout its whole life, including updated information concerning the project and the consortium, news, achievements, events, downloadable material and any relevant content of interest.
The NEANIAS site is available online and can be accessed at www.neanias.eu. The web site has been designed considering the alignment to the defined visual identity and includes the main recommendations for the best user experience, considering accessibility, web browsing facilities, security or content organization.
The NEANIAS site is expected to attract both individual visitors and stakeholders with an interest in Underwater, Atmospheric, Space or ICT fields, and will constitute an important source of information for them, including contents for expert and non-expert audiences.
The contents will be available in the most appropriate format (formatted text, leaflets, brochures, whitepapers, news, reports, multimedia, links, …) according to the scope and the target. Academic and technical audience (such as scientific communities, research centers, developers, or public institutions) will have the opportunity to benefit from the material published, as well as stakeholders of other European projects in order to identify synergies and potential lines of collaboration. Journalists will find updated information, such as news, events or press releases. In order to boost this media, the website includes also a useful direct link to social media platforms.
Besides, consortium and other interested and supporting stakeholders can use their own communication channels to ensure a wider dissemination and promotion of the NEANIAS project among their ranks and collaborative networks. NEANIAS will provide links to facilitate this dissemination. The website will be linked from and to the partners’ website and relevant scientific communities.
The document presents the management model (considering both from the technical and the content perspective) and the tracking of impact and use, and then the definition of functional model as a preliminary step to the development, illustrated in the final part of the document with many screenshots and its explanations and relevant comments.

NEANIAS is an ambitious project that comprehensively addresses the ‘Prototyping New Innovative Services’ challenge set out in the recent ‘Roadmap for EOSC’ foreseen actions. NEANIAS will drive the co-design, delivery, and integration into EOSC of innovative thematic services, derived from state-of-the-art research assets and practices in three major sectors: underwater research, atmospheric research and space research. Each of these sectors considers a diverse set of research and business groups, practices, and technologies. Each thematic service will not only address its community-specific needs but will also enable the transition of the respective community to the EOSC concept and Open Science principles. In doing so, NEANIAS provides its communities with plentiful resource access, collaboration instruments, and interdisciplinary research mechanisms, which will amplify and broaden each community’s research and knowledge generation activities.
As stated above, one of the key tasks in the project is to communicate and disseminate the developments, outputs and benefits of NEANIAS to a wide spectrum of stakeholders in order to get their involvement and engagement, facilitating so the achievement of the objectives set. This task must be implemented taking into account different profiles, needs, interests, areas of application and each kind of relationship with the project.
This document is a reviewed and improved version of the first report already submitted as “Deliverable D10.1 Communication, Dissemination, Outreach and Engagement Plan (Draft)” on the 2nd month of the project and aimed to define the project Communication, Dissemination and Outreach goals and to describe the overall plan for the entire project duration.

The objective of this deliverable is to assess the sustainability of NEANIAS thematic services that are free of charge that is services without revenues. Towards this direction, a technoeconomic model was developed and used.
The first step in this endeavour is to identify the cost elements for the specific services. Several elements have been identified such as cloud resources, tech support personnel, access to dependent core services etc. The conclusions from meetings carried out with the service providers are presented and discussed. The input form distributed to service providers is described.
The derived results using the technoeconomic model are discussed. Existing and future funding per service along with the annual expenses are provided. Cash flows and financial indices like the Net Present Value are estimated in order to assess the investment per service as well as the required funding to ensure services’ sustainability.
The business perspectives of both NEANIAS internal and external cases are investigated and discussed. A description of each case is provided while cases business models are also presented.
This deliverable can be used both by NEANIAS partners and other stakeholders involved in EOSC ecosystem since it provides useful figures and guidelines towards NEANIAS services exploitation and sustainability.

This document reports on the 1st release of the underwater services and the software underlying each service. This report, NEANIAS deliverable 2.4, is published right after the first thematic underwater services release, i.e., deliverable D2.3 and the initial validation phase based on mostly internal end-users.
The U1 [UW_BAT] “Bathymetry mapping from acoustic data service implementation” provides an advanced user-friendly, cloud-based version of the popular MB-System software, for processing bathymetric data through Jupyter Notebooks.
For each released service a point-of-access is provided, as well as the relevant documentation, which is organized under NEANIAS docs service at https://docs.neanias.eu/en/latest.
Services reported here have gone through the first release round, most services have been integrated to NEANIAS authentication system service, the documentation workflow, and integrated with GARR infrastructure services. As expected, this first services milestone uncovered some gaps in the services deployment stack and integration with other core and delivery services will be addressed for the next milestones and releases.

This document reports on the 1st release of the Atmospheric Thematic services and the software underlying each service. This report, NEANIAS deliverable 3.4, comes out right after the first thematic atmospheric services release, deliverable D3.3.
The A3 Service, named “ATMO-4CAST”, is responsible for Air quality estimation, monitoring and forecasting, providing users with the ability to obtain and visualise meteorological and air quality forecasts based on their own datasets through a central server. This is done by processing the incoming data, passing it through popular models such as WRF-ARW and CMAQ, and processing and creating visualisations based on their outputs.
For each released service a point-of-access is provided, as well as interface through which it may interact with other services and documentation explaining how to use it. Documentation of all NEANIAS atmospheric services is organized under NEANIAS docs service.
Services reported here have gone through the first release round, most services have been integrated to NEANIAS authentication system service, the documentation workflow, and integrated with GARR infrastructure services. As expected, this first milestone of services, uncovered some gaps in their deployment stack. Integration with other core and delivery services will be addressed for the next milestone and releases.
