The 0.4.8 is a development version following the CRAN release 0.4.7 of the iotables R package (see website with detailed reference and tutorials) currently works with economic impact assessments, and can evaluate the likely employment, tax, wage, or gross value added direct, indirect and multiplied impacts of various policy changes in about 30 countries.

Originally the package was developed to calculate the economic impact of the Hungarian film tax shelter and the impact of the music sector on the Slovak economy. (See Slovak Music Industry Report) and was focusing on direct, indirect and multiplied economic impacts. With the new release we added environmental impact funcionality.

See this vignette article: Environmental Impacts

The 0.4.7 version is adding new functionality for environmental impact analysis with many air pollutants.
The 0.4.8. version is adding comparable calculation witht the Eurostat Manual in the Introduction to iotables article, and adds a new function to create output coefficients.

Released on CRAN.

0.2.2: Improved API consistancy and the introduction of crosswalk tables for simpler workflow.

The aim of
retroharmonize
is to provide tools for reproducible retrospective (ex-post) harmonization of datasets that contain variables measuring the same concepts but coded in different ways. Ex-post data harmonization enables better use of existing data and creates new research opportunities. For example, harmonizing data from different countries enables cross-national comparisons, while merging data from different time points makes it possible to track changes over time.

Retrospective data harmonization is associated with challenges including conceptual issues with establishing equivalence and comparability, practical complications of having to standardize the naming and coding of variables, technical difficulties with merging data stored in different formats, and the need to document a large number of data transformations. The
retroharmonize
package assists with the latter three components, freeing up the capacity of researchers to focus on the first.

Retroharmonize 0.2.4 is a next step towards creating a robust workflow and documentation that can be submitted for a peer review as a methodological innovation.

The aim of
retroharmonize
is to provide tools for reproducible retrospective (ex-post) harmonization of datasets that contain variables measuring the same concepts but coded in different ways. Ex-post data harmonization enables better use of existing data and creates new research opportunities. For example, harmonizing data from different countries enables cross-national comparisons, while merging data from different time points makes it possible to track changes over time.

There are many changes compared to earlier versions to make the user interface more consistent, i.e. parameters are harmonized, and parallel code elements are removed. The documentation is greatly enhanced.

For testing purposes, we release the Harmonized Cultural Access & Participation Dataset (which is also has a vignette in the longform documentation of the R package)

regions is released on CRAN. This package helps creating data time series and data panels for sub-national, i.e. regional, provincial, federal state, county and other lower level data.

While we often take the stability of national boundaries for granted, just within the EU there are almost 2000 regional boundaries, and dozens change every three years. Globally, there are tens of thousands of provinces, states, counties, regions, parishes and other areas that may be used for statistical purposes, with hundreds of changes annually. Joining data from Google and Eurostat, from U.S. statistics and OECD is an absolute nightmare, partly because the ISO standard for lower level administration is extremely ill-suited for statistical applications due to its poor metadata structure.

For European data tables made since 1999, not so much anymore. We have encoded thousands of European region versions, and hundreds used by Google to allow the creation of far more detailed statistical analysis that nationally aggregated data would allow.

The Arab Barometer Wave V 2018-2019 is based on a nationally representative probability sample of the population aged 18 and above. In most countries, the sample includes 2,400 citizens. The data were conducted in face-to-face public opinion surveys (CAPI and PAPI). See technical reports by country for country-specific information. You can find the data, codebooks and all relevant information on the Arab Barometer website.

Our dataset contains country weighted counts of different answer options and the re-weighted values of the answers given to the Arab Barometer Wave 5 question:

Q101 : How would you evaluate the current economic situation in your country? Very good, Good, Bad, Very bad our Don’t know, Refused to answer.

The goal of statcodelists is to promote the reuse and exchange of statistical information and related metadata with making the internationally standardized SDMX codelists available for the R user. Package website: statcodelists.dataobservatory.eu

Cross-domain concepts in the SDMX framework describe concepts relevant to many, if not all, statistical domains. SDMX recommends using these concepts whenever feasible in SDMX structures and messages to promote the reuse and exchange of statistical information and related metadata between organisations.

Code lists are predefined sets of terms from which some statistical coded concepts take their values. SDMX cross-domain code lists are used to support cross-domain concepts. The use of common code lists will help users to work even more efficiently, easing the maintenance of and reducing the need for mapping systems and interfaces delivering data and metadata to them. Therefore, a choice over code lists has a great impact on the efficiency of data sharing.

`statcodelists` helps the use of the latest codelist in your R workflow.

0.2.0: Improved documentation and more consistent parameters. Reading STATA files.

The aim of
retroharmonize
is to provide tools for reproducible retrospective (ex-post) harmonization of datasets that contain variables measuring the same concepts but coded in different ways.

Retroharmonize 0.2.3 is a next step towards creating a robust workflow and documentation that can be submitted for a peer review as a methodological innovation.

The aim of
retroharmonize
is to provide tools for reproducible retrospective (ex-post) harmonization of datasets that contain variables measuring the same concepts but coded in different ways.

The documentation is greatly enhanced.

validate_country_nuts_countries is now follows dplyr 1.0, this makes the code more readable.

validate_nuts_regions is validating non-EU NUTS-like regions as valid if they will be added to NUTS2021. These regional codes, while legally not part of the NUTS2016 typology, are valid and can be placed on the maps created by EuroGeographics maps provided by Eurostat.
Italy, Portugal, the United Kingdom, Estonia, Slovenia,Latvia pseudo-NUTS3 codes in google_nuts_matchtable.

New correspondence table for converstion between Local Administration Units (LAUs) and NUTS within the European Union and some other European countries.

The first CRAN release 0.1.0

Regions is an offspring of the eurostat package. It started as a patch to the problematic transition of Eurostat's regional statistics from the NUTS2013 to the NUTS2016 regional typology, which made it impossible to create time series, data panels or data joins among different data tables. Eurostat's regional statistics is not tidy, because in the 'geo' ID it mixes together with incompatible identifiers from the NUTS2016 (current base case), and the NUTS2010 and often earlier typologies.

Current features:

an extended validation of country codes and European NUTS regional coding starting from 1999
recoding and relabelling across European NUTS typologies, and general functions that can work with any national, ISO 3166-2 or OECD typology as inputs.
projecting data from larger sub-national divisions to smaller ones
two vignettes explaining this functionality.
Planned features:

Incorporation of new typologies, such as OECD's, Google's, and other major data sources.
Better coordination between rOpenGov packages, particularly eurostat and eurostat_geodata.
New imputation functionality based on re-aggregation, re-weighting.
Vignette on joining data from different typologies, such as Google Trends data with Eurostat data.
The main repo is rOpenGov/regions, where you can send pull requests to the devel branch. You can directly collaborate with the package author on antaldaniel/regions, too, but the core development will hopefully shift to rOpenGov.

The goal of retroharmonize is to facilitate retrospective (ex-post) harmonization of data, particularly survey data, in a reproducible manner. The package provides tools for organizing the metadata, standardizing the coding of variables, variable names and value labels, including missing values, and for documenting all transformations, with the help of comprehensive S3 classes.

Bug fix in harmonize_waves(): Date types are now correctly harmonized.
-A new function, harmonize_var_names(), helps to systematically rename variables in a list of surveys. Conventional names to keep are returned by suggest_permanent_names(), and the helper function suggest_var_names() provides a simple wrapper around var_label_normalize() and suggest_permanent_names().

A new function, subset_waves(), helps to subset a wave of surveys.

This is mainly a documentation release that prepares the package for a peer-reviewed journal publication, and mainly adds new unit tests that replicate published, reliable sources. The only real addition to the exported functionality is ghosh_inverse_create, which is, however, only a wrapper using supply-side name conventions for leontief_inverse_create.

Our iotables software has been updated with further replication data from the Eurostat Manual of Supply, Use and Input-Output Tables and the Handbook on Supply and Use Tables and Input-Output Tables with Extensions and Applications.

version 0.4.6: Eliminating deprecated tidyverse functions and building a new webiste.

The symmetric input-output tables (SIOTs) are complex statistical products that present inter-related statistics in a predefined structure. Often these highly structured statistics need to be analyzed together with other data, for example, when employment or environmental effects and multipliers are calculated.

The iotables are exactly designed for these tasks. Currently the package downloads and processes standardized European SIOTs conforming to the latest statistical regulations, i.e. SIOTs starting from the year 2010.

This is a much improved, simplified version, with highly improved performance, more consistent function interface and far more readable code.

The Germany example is converted to the
ESA2010
vocabulary.

A completely new dataset, metadata and vignette was added to test the functions on the United Kingdom Input-Output Analytical Tables, 2010. article and dataset.

The new function
supplementary_add()
can add a supplementary account or row to the table, useful to add employment data, for example.

The new function
total_tax_add()
adds a summary of product and production taxes among the primary inputs.

Clearly divided analytical functions,
direct_effects_create()
,
indirect_effects_create()
,
input_multiplier_create()
create the direct, indirect and total effects matrix.

This is a much improved version with highly improved performance, more consistent function interface and far more readable code. The last CRAN release is stable, the following version will be a stable, better release candidate.

New vignette United Kingdom Input-Output Analytical Tables to compare analytical function results with published results from the UK National Office for Statistics.

The package website has already three long vignettes.

The 0.4.7 release of the iotables R package (see website with detailed reference and tutorials) currently works with economic impact assessments, and can evaluate the likely employment, tax, wage, or gross value added direct, indirect and multiplied impacts of various policy changes in about 30 countries.

The 0.4.7 version is adding new functionality for environmental impact analysis with the following pollutants: Carbon dioxide without emissions from biomass (
CO2
), Carbon dioxide from biomass (
Biomass CO2
), Nitroux oxide (
N2O
), Methane (
CH4
), Perfluorocarbons (
PFCs
), Hydrofluorocarbons (
HFCs
), Sulphur hexafluoride (SF6) including nitrogen trifluoride (
NF3
), Nitrogen oxides (
NOx
), Non-methane volatile organic compounds, (NMVOC), Carbon monoxide (
CO
), Particulate matter < 10μm (
PM10
), Particulate matter < 2,5μm (
PM2,5
), Sulphur dioxide (
SO2
), Ammonia (
NH3
) and their combinations (see Reference Metadata in Euro SDMX Metadata Structure (ESMS)).

Released on CRAN.

This is a minor release with plenty of improvements in the code, the unit tests and the documentation. The package is now working with rlang and tidyverse 1.0+, and uses more meaningful and descriptive assertions and error or warning messages.

A new vignette shows how to place the problem areas on a map, and how to draw the map.
