Coryphaenoides acrolepis
Description
Coryphaenoides acrolepis (Bean, 1884).
Pacific Grenadier or Roughscale Rattail. To 122 cm (48 in) TL (DFO). Sea of Okhotsk and Pacific Ocean off Japan, to southern Bering Sea and Aleutian Islands (Mecklenburg et al. 2002), to near central Baja California mainland (28°51’N, 115°46.7’W) (Personal communication: Scripps Institution of Oceanography Fish Collection, La Jolla, California), and Isla Guadalupe, central Baja California (Miller and Lea 1972); southwest Atlantic near Falkland Islands (Laptikhovsky et al. 2013). Benthopelagic and bathypelagic; depth: typically at 600–2,500 m (1,968 –8,202 ft) (Iwamoto and Stein 1974); reported as shallow as 38 m (125 ft) (DFO), and as deep as 3,700 m (12,136 ft) (Orlov and Tokranov 2019). The maximum depth may represent fish taken in midwater over deeper bottom, true maximum depth may be around 1,500 m (4,920 ft) (Tomio Iwamoto, pers. comm. to M.L.).
