Project repository "Forgotten colours – Rediscovering the original polychromy of Early Medieval wall paintings in the Raetia Curiensis region"

The Early Medieval wall paintings of the Canton of Grisons and its adjacent territories, which were once part of the Raetia Curiensis region, represent a rare and important testimony of the quality and richness of the artistic and monastic culture of the period. Their materiality represents a rich source of information on painting techniques, production methods of pigments and binders, origins of raw materials, and on the cultural networks in which patrons and artists were embedded. The interdisciplinary project, carried out by a team of scientists, archaeologists and art historians, is tracing the networks of people, things and ideas of which the Early Medieval wall paintings are the material expression, and to reconstruct an important segment of an important period for the European history.
