Let's take a look at what's going on right now.
Divinity schools tell their professors to use gender-neutral pronouns for God.
The CIA releases 13 million pages of previously classified documents, and demands protests
of Donald Trump, fizzles, in the middle of a Washington, D.C. street.
This is Skywatch TV for Thursday, January 19th, 2017.
I'm Derek Gilbert.
First up, buildings in Rome were evacuated after three earthquakes hit about 65 miles
northeast of the Italian capital.
After shocks continued to rock the area, centered just four miles from a town flattened by a
powerful quake last August.
The earthquakes this week measured magnitude 5.3, two of them, and a 5.7.
There were no immediate reports of injuries, but the quakes hit after 36 hours of continuous
snowfall.
Snow reportedly up to six feet deep in places, so if a serious quake hits now, first responders
may not be able to get to people in the affected zones in these mountainous regions where many
roads are impassable because of the recent snow.
The inauguration of Donald Trump and Mike Pence as next president and vice president
of the United States is tomorrow, January 20th.
And Governor Mike Pence will take the oath of office on the Reagan family Bible with
the book open to 2 Chronicles 7, verse 14, which reads, If my people which are called
by my name shall humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked
ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.
Franklin Graham will pray at the ceremony along with Florida-based televangelist Paula
White and Samuel Rodriguez, president of the National Hispanic-Christian Leadership Conference.
Donald Trump not planning to waste any time as spokesman Sean Spicer says Mr. Trump may
issue four or five executive orders on Friday.
As soon as he takes the oath of office, we're looking forward to seeing what he plans to
repeal with that pen.
A protester set himself on fire in Washington, D.C., outside Trump International Hotel.
This was Tuesday night, apparently a failed attempt to self-immolate.
The man said, I'm protesting the fact that we've elected somebody who is completely incapable
of respecting the Constitution of the United States."
What else is new?
That's been that way for the last 16 years.
He suffered burns on his back, but was able to walk his burns reportedly not too serious
thankfully.
Neither was his protest.
Of course, there's been a controversy in recent days over civil rights icon John Lewis,
Democratic congressman from Georgia, who is declined to attend the inauguration Friday.
Criticism of Congressman Lewis was muted by the fact that he is considered an icon of
the civil rights movement of the 60s, whether that's fair or not.
However, the niece of Reverend Martin Luther King Jr., Reverend Alveda King, director of
civil rights for the unborn, admitted that she voted for Donald Trump.
So not everybody linked to the civil rights movement automatically voted Democrat in November.
Vladimir Putin has spoken up about some of the things President Obama has done on his
way out of the White House, Putin accusing the Obama administration of trying to undermine
Donald Trump before he even takes office.
This of course followed the fake news reports of Donald Trump cavorting with prostitutes
at a Moscow hotel, turned out not to be true.
Putin mocked those accusations, saying that he could hardly imagine Mr. Trump falling
for something like that, although Putin tongue in cheek said that Russian prostitutes are
of course the world's best.
He was obviously having some fun with this whole thing, made a backhanded remark about
Mr. Obama.
Now, I don't speak Russian, but you get the gist of it from the subtitles, yeah.
U.S. Marines have landed in Norway, about 300 of them from Camp Lejeune, Camp Lejeune
in North Carolina.
This is a change from Norway's policy of not allowing foreign soldiers on Norwegian soil.
Marines will be there training in Arctic warfare for at least a year.
The troops who arrived Monday will rotate out in six months.
Now let's see, who might the Marines be facing in a potential conflict in the Arctic?
Yeah.
U.S. forces in Syria backing up Turkish military units again.
This is a sign that tensions between the two countries might be easing in spite of American
support for the Kurdish militia, the most effective fighters against the Islamic State
there.
Turkey considers the Kurds supporters of terrorism.
Four U.S. airstrikes hit ISIS fighters near the town of Al-Bab, northeast of Aleppo, that's
about 20 miles inside Turkey's or Syria's border with Turkey.
These offensive on the city of Al-Bab began in November.
Over in Iraq, government troops claim they've taken more than 60 neighborhoods in eastern
Mosul.
Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi said only a few neighborhoods are left in eastern Mosul,
still under the control of the Islamic State.
Here's a map of the wider region around Mosul.
And there is some talk that U.S. soldiers will be needed after Mosul falls to keep the
peace.
Outgoing Defense Secretary Ashton Carter said Tuesday might be a long-term commitment.
Currently about 5,500 American troops in Iraq that's officially, the number's actually
much higher because American soldiers on temporary orders aren't counted in that total.
And this is cool.
I had no idea that this was even there.
Iraqi forces say they've recaptured the tomb of the Prophet Jonah, which is located in
eastern Mosul, which of course is just across the river from the ancient site of Nineveh.
I had no idea.
Sadly, ISIS blew up the tomb of Jonah back in July of 2014.
And when Iraqi soldiers captured it, this is pretty much what they found, a pile of
rubble.
Coming up, 18-wheel truck versus sinkhole.
Guess who wins?

Another day, another sinkhole in the U.S.
This is in Hall County, Georgia, a truck weighing about 55,000 pounds with its load
got sucked into the earth Tuesday morning.
Thankfully, the driver was unhurt.
The CIA has released about 13 million pages of declassified files that includes records
on Nazi Germany, their war crimes, the Cuban Missile Crisis, things like that, but also
investigations into UFO sightings and research into human telepathy, Project Stargate.
Much more.
This includes records of the testing performed on celebrity psychic Uri Geller, the rather
intense looking fellow you see over my shoulder.
You see, when you start digging into the research, as I've done over the last decade,
you find that our Christian nation has spent a lot of time and money trying to weaponize
the occult.
Churches in Alabama could soon offer protection for their members with armed security.
The state legislature there is considering a bill that would offer guidelines, training
and legal protection for armed security teams in churches.
Lawmakers will take up that bill next month.
Federal government has been spying on you, and your car has been helping them.
Connected devices, always interesting to law enforcement and the intelligence community.
So if your car has on-star or a similar device, or even satellite radio, the feds can basically
find you wherever you are.
Call it car tapping, and it's been going on for about the last 15 years, according to
Forbes magazine.
Being connected is convenient, sometimes can save your bacon, but it also means somebody
always knows where you are.
The world's first floating city could soon be riding the waves in the Pacific Ocean,
a company planning to build it for the government of French Polynesia.
The Seasteading Institute hopes to begin construction in 2019.
French Polynesia, a collection of 118 islands in the South Pacific, believes it is threatened
by climate change and rising sea levels.
A couple of top divinity schools have instructed professors to start using more inclusive language
when referring to God.
Masculine pronouns, they say, have served as a cornerstone of the patriarchy.
So Duke and Vanderbilt universities want professors to, and I quote, give consistent
attention to the use of inclusive language, especially in relation to the divine, meaning
God.
But you see, it's not really up to the professor or even school administrators to determine
how we refer to God.
Now look, America's a free country, you can believe whatever you want, flying spaghetti
monster, whatever.
But when you're talking about the God of the Bible, since the Bible is the word of God
and it exclusively uses the masculine pronoun to refer to God the Father, you really don't
have a say.
And finally, we may finally have the answer to winning the clash of cultures, and it's
been right before our eyes, we didn't even know it.
Rumor on the Internet is that Lindsay Lohan, a troubled young actress, is converting to
Islam.
She's deleted all her photos from her Instagram account, most of her posts, and she changed
her bio to alayakum salam, please forgive my pronunciation, means peace be unto you.
Well, setting aside the humor in this, sadly this young woman has been troubled for years.
If you've paid any attention at all to her career, she has had a number of very public
and very embarrassing incidents of self-destructive behavior.
Sadly, this is a self-destructive behavior that could be eternal.
So pray for the young lady.
