It's 5 and 10 on Skywatch TV for September 7th. I'm Derek Gilbert. Topic number five today,
Irma, taking dead aim at the state of Florida. States of emergency declared for Florida, Georgia
and South Carolina. Residents getting ready for this monster storm, the strongest on record.
It has sustained winds of over 180 miles per hour longer than any Atlantic hurricane on record.
The forecast path takes Irma through the Bahamas on Friday, Saturday morning. The storm is expected
to curve to the north and that will determine where in Florida it hits current models showing it,
hitting Florida just south of Miami as a category four storm. Right now it is a category five,
the strongest on the scale. This is expected to move into Florida or up the peninsula as a
category three. It will affect basically the entire state, but Miami, Orlando, Jacksonville
look to be especially hard hit. A category three hurricane means sustained winds of at least 125
miles per hour. The Florida Keys have been ordered evacuated. Georgia and South Carolina,
again issuing states of emergency for a number of counties. For Georgia, most of the state,
South Carolina, mainly the coastal counties. On Good Morning America, earlier this week,
Florida's Governor Rick Scott warned that Irma could be worse than Hurricane Andrew,
which devastated Florida when it hit 25 years ago. Topic number four, cleaning up after Hurricane
Harvey, the House of Representatives, Congress passed the first installment Wednesday
of emergency funding for Harvey recovery. The vote was 419 to three in favor of the aid package,
which measures over $7 billion. The Senate is expected to receive the bill, attach a measure
to it to raise the debt ceiling for the federal government and then send it back to the House
by a for a final vote by the end of this week. There's still a lot of work to be done in Texas
and Louisiana. So we encourage you to support ministries that are working on the ground there.
We talked earlier this week with Coach Dave Dobbinmeyer of Pass the Salt Ministries,
online at coachdavelive.com and Mike Kerr of Hear the Watchmen Ministries, Hear the Watchmen.com,
both of them working hand in hand with the people who are on the ground in Texas,
getting aid directly to people affected by the storm. Topic number three, North Korea.
The dynamics of the standoff between North Korea and the United States took a
shift toward the dramatic last week. North Korea, as you know, fired a missile over the northernmost
Japanese island of Hokkaido and then followed that up with its sixth nuclear test. And based
on the seismographic readings, the shock waves sent off by that test, it appears that North
Korea has successfully tested a hydrogen bomb. The North has bragged about this weapon.
The reason this is concerning is because a hydrogen bomb at high altitude could generate
the type of electromagnetic pulse that we've talked about on Skywatch TV from time to time
with folks like Det. Col. Bob McGinnis and the producer of the film Amerageddon, Gary Haven.
This would theoretically knock out a big part of America's electric grid, many of our electronics,
if not all of them, and basically send us back to a 19th century level of technology.
And because we've become so dependent on refrigeration for our foods, medicines,
even air conditioning just to survive summer weather, an EMP attack could lead to considerable
loss of life in the United States. A report prepared for the U.S. Congress back in 2008,
it was estimated that we're talking tens, if not hundreds of millions,
dead within a year if power was knocked out for that length of time.
But there is some good news on this front. Former NBA star Dennis Rodman has offered
to smooth things out, straighten things out between the United States and North Korea,
so we got that going for us. Topic number two, losing our religion. For the first time,
more than half of Britons describe themselves as having no religion whatsoever. Only 15%
of people in England call themselves members of the Church of England, the Anglican Church.
From a study conducted in 2016, data from the British Social Attitudes Survey
show that 53% of people living in Britain describe themselves as having no religion.
That's up from 48% in 2015. When this survey began in 1983, the percentage of people in England
saying they had no religion was just 31%. In January, Breitbart London reported that
less than a third of millennials in Britain believe that it is a Christian country,
where more than 40% say the UK has no specific religious identity.
Here in the United States, more than 150 evangelical pastors, this is on a different note,
and again, a bit of good news. Seminary and college professors, ministry leaders,
and others have signed a document called the Nashville Statement. This affirms God's design
and intent regarding sexuality, marriage, and gender identity. The Nashville Statement is an
initiative of the Council on Biblical Manhood and Womanhood and the Southern Baptist Convention's
Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission. It was released Tuesday on this week,
features 14 short proclamations set forth in constitutional form. The statement, which
while pertaining to homosexuality and transgenderism, also speaks in regard to God's desire that
all mankind remain sexually pure until marriage. It says a lot about the state of our society today
that religious leaders would actually have to put this out there in the first place,
but as it was in the days of Moses, our culture is following a path other than the one set down by
our Creator. And topic number one, we just can't miss her if she won't go away. Hillary Clinton,
back on Twitter over the weekend, this past weekend, shilling for a new social media site,
asking her followers to sign up for Verit. That's Verit, V-E-R-R-I-T. In a tweet that says,
I'm excited to sign up for Verit, a media platform for the $65.8 million. That's a reference to the
number of votes cast for her in the 2016 presidential election, slightly more than the number of votes
for Donald Trump, who won the presidency because he carried a majority of the electoral college,
votes in the electoral college, which is how we determine the presidency here in the United States.
It's to counterbalance the demographic weight of states like California and New York without the
electoral college. Basically, New York and California would decide our president forever.
It's also an indicator that she just can't let it go. Now, the thing is, many people didn't know what
Verit even was before her tweet, including most of the people in the mainstream media.
And according to polls, I've seen about 90% or more than 90% of the
reporters working for major media outlets voted for Hillary in the last election.
And so some of them got kind of snarky in the response, like,
well, comments I can't really repeat on this program, but one that I thought was kind of humorous,
a liberal talk show commentator who pointed out that Verit, which is supposed to be,
I guess, drawn on the word veritas, meaning truth, this is a social media site that's supposed to
fact check stuff coming from the Trump administration. I think it's a response to
Donald Trump's brilliant use of social media, Twitter especially, to get his message passed
the mainstream media. But a liberal talk show host pointed out that Verit sounds uncomfortably
similar to Verit. And they might have thought this through a little bit better.
Verit was founded by Peter Dow, who was Hillary's former digital strategist,
which her digital strategy obviously wasn't much help in the 2016 election.
Interestingly enough, about an hour after Hillary's tweet, Verit went offline and Mr. Dow
blamed hackers. Hackers again. Right. Well, thankfully, our mobile app has yet to be hacked.
In fact, maybe we're just not a big enough target. Well, you can help us with that by adding it to
your smartphone or tablet. The Skywatch TV mobile app is a free download for the iOS,
which is the iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, the Windows phone, Android phones and tablets,
and the Kindle Fire tablet. I've even got it on my Kindle Fire tablet. And every time we update
a program, whether podcast or video, it'll be right there at the mobile app wherever you are.
