So, this is a quick video to show you exactly how I'm using the Fastex AR4i audio adapter
and the Allah Clip wide angle lens to shoot really good high depth video on an iPhone.
Among those things I'm using, I'm also using a selection of radio mics which is what's
great about the Fastex, you can plug in all professional type microphones.
I'm also using this little mini shotgun from Digital SLR.
For shooting I'm using Filmic Pro, the proprietary iPhone camera doesn't give you the level
of control that you need to shoot properly.
You see here that some of the features that Filmic has is that you can lock focus, you
can lock white balance, you can actually turn on and off the camera light and you can actually
lock exposure, which is great because you don't have all that drifting.
I find editing on the iPhone is a little bit cumbersome, not a lot of screen space so
I use the camera connection kit and the standard Apple cable to dock the iPhone and the iPad
together and that allows you to actually import the contents directly from the iPhone into
the iPad and of course I'm moving the iPad and it's not that easier to use.
Put the two of these things together and you basically get a back to back Apple cable.
So when you have the two devices connected you just want to switch both of them on simultaneously,
the iPad is intelligent enough to know that there's a camera connected and it'll immediately
populate this import list.
Scroll down to the couple of clips that you've just shot with the iPhone and be careful here
that you don't accidentally import everything, that can be a real pain.
Easy to select, tap import, tap import selected.
Depending on the length of the clip this can take a little time.
I think it's a good idea to keep the source material in the iPhone just in case.
You can always delete it later.
And there they are, the three clips on your iPad with no connection to the iPhone.
I think iMovie in the iPad is actually very easy to use.
Once the app is opened you simply hit the plus button to create a new project and it
really is simple drag and drop editing.
Clip list on the top left hand corner, select once and then tap it again to insert it, easy.
So here's the finished edit, ready to be exported, tap my projects on the top and then select
the project to export, tap the export button and you have a whole selection, in this case
we'll go camera roll at HD 720p.
This can take a little bit of time.
Ok so there it is, your project is now being exported, so just quit out of iMovie, go back
to our camera roll and in the last imported, at the very bottom of the list, there's your
finished project.
And it's nice to watch it by full screen.
What's really nice about it though is that you get an app like IFTP, you can select this
video clip directly from the camera roll and send it back to your station.
