Hey everybody, welcome to the show.
My name's Scott.
We're up here at Hatcher Pass.
For this week's hike of the week, we had another hike planned over on the other side
of Summit Lake, but it's the end of June, and believe it or not, the pass isn't open
just yet.
So, we just took a spontaneous hike, which I'm at the top of, and I'm going to show
you how to get here.
Today's hike is located in Hatcher Pass, and is located between the Hatcher Pass Lodge
and the State Park Fee entrance area.
I consider this hike on the lower portion family friendly, but hiking boots for stable
footing is required.
This is the area where most people stop and get great photos of the historic mines below
as well as the peaks across the valley.
You can see below we're not far from the parking lot, and already we've gained good
elevation.
The path on these hikes are well established on the lower portion of the mountain.
The upper portion of the trail system is less traveled and narrows as you continue up, which
branches out into several different hiking routes to nearby peaks.
Right now the weather's moving in, there's rain coming in that's starting to sprinkle,
and I don't know how much more I'm going to be able to shoot, or hike.
Still a little bit slushy up here, early spring, a little bit of snow, some switchbacks up
here that take you up to some of these peaks and nice ridges, and just gorgeous.
Probably one of the most fascinating things up here is the giant boulders that rest in
a lot of these valleys here, and you can hear the water running, you just don't know where
it's coming from, and then here's a stream just right out of the blue.
Pretty awesome, pretty clear water as well.
You know I don't think there's anywhere you could go up here in Hatcher Pass without running
across some sort of history, and you know this is the remnants of, I don't know, mining
shacks, somebody worked.
This is where they worked, up in these mountains up here in Hatcher Pass.
I just couldn't fathom being able to call this place my office, my day job.
This is where I work, where do you work up in Hatcher Pass, yeah okay.
Catching history, just like the kentacot show we did.
That's Alaska for you, God this is just beautiful up here, oh my gosh there's a bald eagle and
we're going to try to catch him on camera here.
I'm going to try to catch him, I'm going to try to catch him, I'm going to try to catch
him.
I'm going to try to catch him, I'm going to try to catch him, I'm going to try to catch
him, I'm going to try to catch him.
Alright this concludes this week's hike of the week, beautiful hike up here, great opportunities,
I had no idea a lot of these switchbacks were available up here, some over here, there's
some over there, there's some that go over to where I guess you can look over and down
on Independence Mine, but absolutely incredible, I'm going to have to come back up here and
hit some of these peaks.
