I'm standing in the middle of a small Thai army outpost right at the border of Burma
and Thailand in the small village of Ban Nor Lai.
And this pan that I'm doing here with the camera is to show you just this small little
army compound. It's really quite small and informal. Not a lot of military people
crawling around here. For any quite peaceful outpost it seems like. I'd
imagine that right now there's not a lot of conflict between Thailand and Burma.
At least we don't need about any papers. But this small pan will show you what
this outpost looks like. A lot of older buildings, tunnels, trenches, sandbag
areas, even a badminton area. You can see the Thai flag flying up here at the north
or to the center of the compound. And I'm actually standing next to a healer
port. You can see from this pan, these are gorgeous mountains way high up on the
border between Burma and Thailand.
Hard not to like this. It's absolutely beautiful up here.
And we're right back where we began with the border sign in front of us and I'll
try to zoom in on the military base all the way across the way in that other
mountain peak. Just over the tip of the corner of the sign. Right there in the
center of the screen and that must be a corresponding military base for Burma.
At the point of the actual border between Thailand and Burma near the small
village of Ban Nor Lai. I'm assuming this sign here says border point. You can see
the Thai flag on the left and that little gate off to the right with that
gentleman sitting there with his back to you. That's a padlocked gate with a walk
way down into Burma. Fascinating. It's the border point.
Like me, I've never stood on the border of two different countries. You often wonder where the border exactly is.
Well this gentleman sitting right here with a beer in his hand right there is
right at the Burmese border between Thailand and Burma. You can see him
holding a beer. It's actually not too hot here. One of the few places I've been in
Thailand where it's not hot. But that's a great picture and you can see the padlock
on the gate and his job is to guard that gate. This speaks a little English. He's
talked to my wife. Just over in the distance you'll see apparently a little
Burmese Army border camp. A little bit hard to distinguish between these objects
here on the screen. Thank you.
