You
Yeah
Hey
I hope I don't fall through the ice
Okay, I guess this is the whole reason why we're making
Trying to bring attention to our issue of water we strongly believe
Whatever water we have still that's clean drinkable in our territory. This is what it all boils down to
And I'm going to get a glass so that you guys will know we we still drink
We still drink from our rivers that flow into big trout and
Our lake
It's not polluted. It's clean our fishes are still healthy and you want some yeah
Bring me the other cup
There's a measuring cup I'll give you guys one cup
That's one oh, that's one cup right there
Good water
This time of year, it's mostly moose and partages in the fall
Feed the family and the kids in my parents too there's everything so expensive at the store now
So for me I have to hunt in order to more like survive up here
we are
concerned about
What was happening within the territory oftentimes without our knowledge and oftentimes without our consent and so
we began to
Start developing the idea of putting two documents together that will begin to deal with the issues of land and waters and
We went through a
Community process working with the elders and community members to begin to identify
What area are we talking about and one of the things that we
Concluded was that we'd have to protect the entire watershed to water declaration is
A document that was prepared
by the community and to the best of everybody's
Knowledge and efforts. It was put together so that we can continue to
protect our
water our lakes and and the rivers and
That we continue to take care of them as we were meant to to do so
few years back this is where
we had found a
Skeletal remains buried here
The age that carbon dated that came back was five thousand eight hundred years old
It shows that we've been here a long time ago
Way way back
Xtremac Subinog had
Been in this territory for a long time. They think it's Ontario's land. It's not Ontario's land
It's Ki land to begin with this is our house
before
The white men came
This was our house and this is our house this whole land
There's a mind there
We know what the mind is
People are gonna move there people are gonna pollute the land
It's kind of like a visitor coming into my place and starting to rip up things same way with our land
They want to come and rip up destroy
Pollute
Everything that's on the land
What are you gonna drink?
What are you gonna use?
You can't use money after that
We've tried to live within the established mechanisms the established laws the established processes of society
and one of those is the
The land claims process we've tried to look at that we filed a land claim that was this regarded of course and
Also, we have the duty to consult from the Supreme Court of Canada
The duty to consult and accommodate so we tried that we set up a consultation and that was this regard
so what ended up
Ki had to do was to invoke the ultimate law that we live by and
We know that as I'm gonna in that decade. I'm looking after my land
it is
It is a law
that is
transferred from generation to generation. My late father passed it on to me saying
Manoenda and Dakeh
and and that is the ultimate
Responsibility and the ultimate sacred duty that we have is to protect these resources
So that future generations will also have the opportunity to be able to enjoy the resources that we too enjoy
and that the land will continue to provide for
for future generations of acts in Mexico and work and
It is the ultimate law that governs acts in Mexico and work and that is to protect the land and and the water
I felt it was my duty as a community member and as a first nation
leader
That we had to demonstrate
To the outside world that we have our own laws our own beliefs and our own systems of maintaining our own
our own
Identity and also holding on to our customs and resources and
Also to be a model for the future generations and it was so important that we
We fought and stood up for what we believe is truly ours to defend
the main problem there is
It's
Not understanding each other
Like the main society has their own ways of thinking and
the way
A k.i person thinks is different as we are native people we are from the land
It's important to me because the land is our future
Believe it will sustain us as it has with
Our ancestors the water is a gift from our creator
It was given to us. We have that sacred responsibility to protect it
not only for ourselves, but
mainly for our children and
The future generations
So we would like to provide them with our ancestors this past dump to us
For what is right ancient treaties denied
I'm not a
Summer you feel
Drummer so strong with pride side by side we shared a social changing time
I got you run as one now. It's begun. Feel the beat
Different drum and close our eyes and give our thanks
We live in it. We live near it can't let it be destroyed
Well, just like I said to the public especially Southern Ontario. This is the time
The day and age. We really need your support
We're under we're subjected under the same environment
We want to have a say in our resources to share with the world
Oh
Oh
Oh
