There are many reasons why businesses choose Providence, Rhode Island's creative capital,
to launch or grow their business. Providence is connected. One quarter of the nation's
population and a trillion dollars worth of GMP are within 500 miles of this 375 year
old capital city. Interstate highways and railroad lines join Providence to major metro
areas up and down the east coast. Our award-winning TF Green Airport connects with hubs across
the nation and its expansion includes flights to European destinations.
We have a very diverse skill set that we draw from and being close to Boston helps. We can
draw people down from there. We have a lot of folk who live over the line. We have a
bunch of folk who live in town. There's nobody doing more than a 30 minute commute to get
here so it's very convenient.
Providence is also home to New England's second deepest port and provides access to
international markets for imports and exports.
We're a global company. We were acquired actually several years ago by an Italian company. We
maintain the world headquarters of the company here in Rhode Island but we have a lot of
back and forth with our Italian colleagues. We have brought some of our Italian colleagues
over here to work in our headquarters.
And they've located and relocated to Rhode Island. They live here.
Providence is smart. With over 20,000 college and university students, Providence is a forward
thinking place. Ivy League Giant Brown University and the world's number one art and design
college, Rhode Island School of Design, infuse the city with curiosity and creativity.
Providence College, Johnson and Wales University, Rhode Island College, URI and Roger Williams
University breathed life into our downtown and our neighborhoods.
Brown has been here for 250 years. When the university was founded, it was tightly integrated
in with the city. It still is. We value our collaborations. We like to have people come
on campus and we like to reach out and have an impact and be involved in the city.
Providence has room to grow. Moving an interstate highway and uncovering rivers have given
the city new opportunities.
Moving all over the world and I'll narrow it to the United States. We look at productivity.
The skilled trades in the Rhode Island market are as productive as any trades in the United
States.
22 acres of land are open for new development in our knowledge district. Universities are
teaming up with leading health care institutions. Research and development, bioscience and IT
firms are creating a hub of new business for the 21st century.
Beta Spring is a start-up accelerator. We follow a 12-week acceleration model where
we invest in the companies that come to Beta Spring. In 2012, 25 of the 29 teams that came
to our program decided to stay in Providence. It has huge access to highly creative individuals
in the city and in the region.
Providence has an unbeatable quality of life. Travel and leisure named Providence the country's
number one culinary destination and there is a strong farm-to-table movement with Rhode
Island farmers providing goods directly to restaurants and families.
One of the real advantages about living in this area is that it's rich with culture.
There's a Providence Performing Arts Center, there's the Dunkin' Donuts Center, so many
restaurants as a part of the food cluster and the food business in Rhode Island. There's
just so much to do here.
The city is alive with exceptional arts and cultural experiences, diverse neighborhoods,
and remarkable historic architecture. And with our central proximity to the rest of
the Ocean State, you are no more than an hour's drive to Newport, to the vineyards of Little
Compton, to the farmlands of Situit, the beaches of Narragansett, or the historic mills of
the Blackstone Valley.
The city as a whole continues to evolve. I think it's very dynamic. I think it's evolving
now faster than it probably ever did.
There's an interesting art scene, there are great places to live, and it's just a really
interesting place.
So what are you waiting for? Your business belongs in Providence, the creative capital.
And Looks like this is one of the streets of Newport, where it's easily accessible.
